Our final plans
Comments (5)Thanks Sharon, rather than a small room, we wanted a big space where our daughter (and her friends) could hang out and it had to be big enough for her to want to stay there haha... the two boxes are actually voids, one's a heating void and the other for the return air, they're floor to ceiling so won't really look like boxes but rather the corner of the wall will come outwards if that makes sense... I'm thinking a low and long tv unit from the void wall in the bottom right corner all along the bottom wall with the tv (maybe wall mounted) under the window?... and maybe some sort of shelf/storage from the void along the right wall with padded seating in front of the fixed panel of the sliding door to the balcony?...See MoreFinal plans being built with out us signing or sighting since contract
Comments (22)I don't think the window it's actually that big a deal. If privacy is the issue you can put a blind on the window, or even develop a little screened off outdoor section with a nice little private garden outlook..........sometimes I deliberately INCREASE windows to powder rooms and ensuite designs to connect boldly with the immediate external spaces with glazing. yes this challenges conventional thoughts on privacy but more often than not when we embrace the constraint and go with it/look at the opportunity it brings, you actually get far more interesting end results and experiences of space. Some of the best high end resorts use this kind of design thought in their bathroom designs that blurs the lines between inside and out. Privacy can be managed/controlled in various ways........... I think the bigger issue here is the attitude of the builder and the way they have gone about it......See MoreFinal Floor Plan Feedback pls
Comments (14)unable to read all the dimensions my suggestions have simplified the shape of the building and based on estimated room sizes are aimed at improving comfort by separating some areas (eg study and lounge) for quiet activities and if you added furniture to suit your lifestyle and activities (eg not sure how you would want to furnish the cinema and bar) would help you to ensure rooms are the best size and shape (eg downstairs bedroom could be used for a guest room so i've included private access to the bathroom)..the zen room could be included with the master suite by moving the doors across the upstairs hallway...the rearranged cloak room to better suit the likely easy walking path from car inside with groceries and the powder room more likely used from the study and lounge when there's an extra bathroom at the back of the house.....luckily you have ideal north facing main rooms but, unless there are great views i would be cautious about balconies and wide expanses of glass to the east or west (or consider external sun screens) and depending on budget there would be lots of option to reduce the overall size without changing the basic floorplan...See MoreRenovation plans _ Help! Comments (8)Wow Nicole, sorry you took my offer of assistance the wrong way. I responded as there had been no other responses to this original posting from 18th January, and your plans and the original question didn't show great clarity of thinking. I am glad that you have resolved your queries via another posting, drawn everything up yourself to a high standard so that your renovation will progress smoothly and efficiently with all of the appropriate technical documentation. Fortunately, with my six years contributing to the Houzz community and my 66 Houzz reviews, I know that not everybody thinks as you do. Best of luck with your renovation, Dr Retro...See MoreThomas Evely
