Hi, probably too late to comment now as you've already gone with someone on this project. Along the wall is the most common solution as it is easier to create falls, particularly if you have large format tiles. You will get water out of the shower given this is a just a freestanding panel, and it will also be cold in winter (speaking from experience) without a door on it. In the Australian Standards you are required to have a 'water stop' or step down to at least 5mm - most people don't do this and this is where problems can start from a waterproofing point of view. I used to have tiled floors at the old place ..the whole downstairs was tiled ( lounge, study, living room , kitchen, laundry) terracotta ones..not cold at all contrary to what people think .. the kids loved riding their trikes around the house as it was massive open living space 36 squares in all. we had a wool rug where the living area was so kids can lounge around.. I find tiles are easier to maintain than floor boards.A quick vacuum and mop is all it needed and it hid the dirt well..whereas floor boards collects dust and hair etc.. Timber floorboards are nice to look at..the floating /laminate looks cheap and nasty I'd rather tiles instead.

hi my husband is a builder and I know about tiles a lot . there is nothing for wet area tiles . all tiles are floor and wall tiles. yea you could use rough surface tiles in wet area but it's depends on your style but you don't need to choose only rough surface . in wet area you must have to do waterproofing before laying your tiles . you can all choose from cremaic tiles to porcelain tiles. you just need to measure wall hight and width then tiles shop guys they we will work out how many sqm you need or give them your floor plan they can work it out.

I have some more photos if needed. The space is used very badly in my opinion, and the spaces are quite small. We think we might brick in the windows to the floor, and have a window on the upper section only as we are rendering the outside of the house so this 'should' work and give us some more space. We have just had blackbutt vinyl planks laid through the rest of the house, and charcoal carpet in the bedrooms. We both like a more minimal style and would like to take the idea of the charcoal through to the bathroom but in a much lighter tone than our carpets. Definitely want to keep a bath in the main bathroom - I love my baths!!! Both bathrooms only have a shower space of 1m x 1m at most and we would like that bigger. Ideally I'd love to work out how to fit a larger vanity in the ENsuite - and we also think we can change the sliding door to a solid door that slides into the wall cavity to give us that space back.
