Hi Mandy Have been following to see if anyone could help you with this question, but nothing so far. I've wondered the same and although I haven't as yet installed a barn door my thoughts are that they would make a metal on metal sound when opening and closing, with the wheel rolling along the track, but if there was a rubber or silicone ring around the wheel it would slide more freely & quietly, more like a sliding door sound I guess. As far as the door moving in a breeze, you can put a guide on the floor that the door glides over (so there's a groove all along the bottom of the door to accommodate the guide). The build is looking good. I do think that the doors and track should be painted in a dark colour, possibly charcoal. Light colours jump out and can often dominate. Darker colours often blend well with natural tones. Its much more subtle. Good luck with it.

Hi Bee everything you have done looks lovely but it lacks practical storage. The day bed does take up a lot of space but if hubbie loves to watch Netflix can't argue with that what does he watch it on? because you are video conferencing it would serve both purposes to have a larger screen on the wall opposite the lounge above the desk for Netflix,computer and conferencing. The pretty open floating shelves currently above the desk be moved above the lounge and replaced with full width and height bookshelves Your new hanging book shelves really are only decorative and will block the view into what is already a cramped space and won't store very many books can you use it elsewhere. The art work on it's own would look better and more open. Can the rug be pulled back further or sideways to avoid the door You need to try and keep things off the floor to give a more open feeling. So you want to install two barn doors, one upstairs and one with the fretwork opening. Regarding the upstairs door….how wide do you want the barn door. The full width of the upstairs landing or just the width of stairs. Either way you will need to build a full structure to hold the weight of the door. Also, for safety, I would not put the door right at the steps, it should go back in line with the door on the right. Therefore there is still a landing between door and stairs. You could also look at installing a cavity slider door. If you install a door, the natural light into that upstairs may be lost.
