Colour for wall cladding
We have an extension to our house which is finished with a Cypress Pine or Western Red Cedar cladding. It needed a re-stain so we decided to sand it back. We were planning on staining it in a slightly darker brown colour.
But we are also thinking about painting it a solid colour but not sure what colour would match the rest of the house the best.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
We would even consider changing the colours of other parts of the outside such as the gutter to make it look better.

PRO7 years agoWhite, blue, grey... lots of options. Your colour pallet for the exterior is very neutral so easy to find something suitable. What is your interior like? It is important for the inside to make sense with the outside, perhaps there is a good colour internally that you can reflect here. Or perhaps, something different is the best option.

This is the inside of the house. The bottom photo is the inside of that extension.
The House is a Yellowy Creamy colour that is very dated and we want to change to a more neutral off white at a later date.
I did think that a white or off white for the outside might look a bit too white and washed out with the white Brick. The Brick does have like charcoal flecks through it. So maybe that colour could be good to coordinate with.

Comments (11)Just a thought - Have you tested the existing cladding for asbestos prior to removing? Some of my coastal clients also feel the need to 'fill' the corrugations at the ends prior to capping or butting up to end frames: to dissuade small creatures from also moving in to a nice new home. Colorbond Surfmist will look great and horizontal will help to balance your homes height, however, it also gives ridges where dust and dirt sits and so needs to be hosed down more often - probably a good idea as it removes some of the salt as well. Comments (5)A lot of the time they build a core filled concrete block wall then construct another stone wall against it. The concrete block wall takes the job of retaining while the stone is for looks only. It does depend on what purpose the wall is performing. For example a retaining wall higher than 600mm (usually) needs engineering by a structural engineer which is easier to achieve with core filled concrete block on footings rather than just solid stone. I tried Gilbrator Grey initially but it was too light. That is it on the right side with some patch work.
I looked at Colorbond Basalt but decided on something darker and went Colorbond Monument.
Still a work in progress.

Ok. Mostly finished just needs a clean up around the edges.
What do people think?
Should I go lighter?
Something does not feel right. It feels un-balanaced somehow.
