Comments (29)HU, I've replied to old posts, sometimes the related questions that appear can be confusing and the date can be overlooked, it happens, I think many of us have done it, so don't worry about it. Thing is, if the original poster is no longer following and if other people looking for inspo are more likely to get advice by starting a question of their own than getting lost in an old discussion and if people willing to reply waste time reading through before noticing the question is 7 years old, and it brings it back to the first page making it more likely more people will mistake it for a recent discussion, I'm not sure how productive any of that is, so I appreciate the 'old post' advisory, and in that spirit since I've now added to the conversation I'll draw to others' attention that this is an OLD POST...See MoreUpdate Façade / Street Appeal
Comments (10)From the look of the under whelming front Stairs the house looks about 450mm (3 steps) or so off the the ground. So could make more of a presence redo the front door entry / stairs quite cheaply with a timber deck that starts at the front door wraps around the each side if the house a bit, then flows down onto the entry path and terraces down the sides. Along with the other suggestion of painting the front door a brighter colour would create character lift the entry nicely. Does the front of the house face north or If your budget allowed a narrow deck say 1.2m (with pergola) along the entire front would transform the place entirely....See MoreDesperately needing an update and welcoming street appeal
Comments (11)Some great ideas thank you Julie. If I can get away without painting the bricks I will because I actually quite like them too. I think the roof and guttering in a charcoal colour could be the answer. The front of the house has shrubs that need to be removed because they are blocking light to a bedroom and the bathroom. Divider needs to go too, it's old and dated....See MoreHow to improve street appeal
Comments (16)I actually really like the fence... it gives it a country australiana sort of look. I prefer it open to a fortress of corrugated iron. Look, there's not a lot can be done to change the house... it would look even more of a hash. It IS the style and age it IS and it has a charm of its own. As long as it's all tidy and in good repair that's great. It's a good solid house by the looks of it. Instead focus on landscaping the yard. Pull the eye forward to the fence line with some plantings on either side of the wire fence. I'd do a low floral border that sits belownthe top of the fence and then maybe something like agapanthas on the other side so you can appreciate them from the street. I'd favor natives like grevilleas and bottlebrush. large shrubs flowers in a large bed in front of the house. I'd maybe put a few standardised bottlebrushes on either side of the path for height. It would all bring the gaze forward to the lovely native garden which would attract birds. natives tend to have shades of grey in the foliage which would look good against the roofline which is more dominant anyway. https://www.abc.net.au/gardening/factsheets/cottage-garden-natives/12904492 https://www.australianplantsonline.com.au/blog/post/cottage-garden-with-natives...See More- 7 years ago
