Need some advice about external cladding colour
Comments (11)Just a thought - Have you tested the existing cladding for asbestos prior to removing? Some of my coastal clients also feel the need to 'fill' the corrugations at the ends prior to capping or butting up to end frames: to dissuade small creatures from also moving in to a nice new home. Colorbond Surfmist will look great and horizontal will help to balance your homes height, however, it also gives ridges where dust and dirt sits and so needs to be hosed down more often - probably a good idea as it removes some of the salt as well. Good luck with the reno, the Architects image looks great....See MoreNeed help with external paint colours....
Comments (9)With the roof tile colour I suggested off white, but NEVER WHITE as you'd need sunglasses to enter (talk to a roof painting company). It's also a way to minimize heat by reflection, therefore lowering cooling cost and making life more comfortable, plus very aesthetically appealing. Though the down side is more regular semi pressure cleaning. I do like mid to light grey for outside timber decking or tiles under a roof line with this colour combination. For anything else as far as outside in direct sunshine, stay light but in the same hues, it can be too hot to walk on barefooted if remotely mid to dark in colour....See MoreNeed help with colour choice for external planter boxes on apartments
Comments (7)Hi Hamish, these planters are very cool! Great potential here. - from what I can see; your home has brown and red tones, it depends on the look you are trying to achieve - however if you were aiming to integrate these planters into the existing colour pallet I would go for something with orange, brown, or red undertones - I know orange sounds frightening! Bare in mind that colours look very different when under direct sunlight, or dark shadows cast by trees etc.. Before painting it's always wise to do a test on a piece of thick paper or cardboard; see how it looks in morning light, afternoon sun, dim light at dusk, and so on... What is the light like at your place? If your home doesn't get much sun I would go for a lighter colour (lighter greys with brown undertones) to bounce off the sunlight that does reach it. A darker colour (browns, oranges) would add impact, a focal point, and would boast the greenery, as the natural colours from your plants would be intensified against a darker backdrop. I have outlined some colours that would look well balanced with the rest of your exterior - Good luck! - I look forward to seeing an update...See MoreNeed help with external colours please. keeping ironstone roof and red
Comments (3)You have a smart, crisp home with a traditional style. It looks like your windows are maybe a powder-coated aluminium in white. It is quite a big exercise to paint these as the frames are so narrow. A smooth powder coated finish needs a bit of preparation (without damaging the glass) to prepare it for new paint. Had you considered where your black paint stops? At the moment the frames look like they are the same colour on the outside as the inside as they are powder-coated aluminium. If you paint them black on the outside, then it will look messy if you leave them white on the inside. I would be maintaining the white window frames and spending the money saved on a better finish for your concrete slab verandah. Possibly a deep blue/grey slab finish similar to Ironstone, and pick up the tiled window sills in the same colour. I would also consider painting gutters, fascias, arched beams and posts all in a crisp white, possibly even Dulux Vivid White, to match the window frames. This scheme will be timeless, understated and elegant, and will complement the red terracotta brick and ironstone roof beautifully. You don't need to introduce another colour when you already have two strong colours to compete with.
