What would you rather put on your walls?
Comments (6)I voted for paintings, because I have quite a few, but given the choice, I'd have voted for "quirky objects" ahead of any of the items on the list. I have African wall hangings, European ceramic plates, Afghan bags, and a carving from an Indian temple door. Also, copper and brass trays from four or five countries and lots of other things that remind me of places I've lived or visited. What I don't like and don't have is mass produced "wall art" chosen to fit with the decor rather than stand on its own merits either as art or as personal memorabilia....See MoreWould it look weird to half paint this fireplace?
Comments (44)Lightening the mortar will look great and keep those lovely bricks as the feature of the room. Eventually a few other ways to brighten the room could be: lighter coat of paint on the walls & a tall indoor plant or wall art in place of book shelves (if you have another spot for the shelves that is). Gorgeous room - look fwd to seeing the before/after pics when you colour mortar. :)...See MoreFireplace & Brick Wall in Lounge - What would you do?
Comments (10)The stained glass windows seem to be at odds with the exposed brick, but probably match the original part of the house. If the stained glass windows are giving privacy from an overlooking neighbour I would keep them, and work to make the brickwork more like the original part of the house, so it seems less incongruous. This could be done using a traditional wet plaster or solid plaster technique, which you would need to complete befor your gas insert fireplace is positioned. I would finish it of with a traditional timber fireplace surround and mantle piece, which would be the focal point of a more contemporary room, but link in with the original architecture. Comments (8)If you dont want a cream or white colour but want to keep it neutral you could pick out the taupe colour that is also in your tile and paint this colour on the wall. Alternatively if you want to add a bit more colour to the bathroom then a blue/green colour such as light teal or a softer tone such as Duck Egg or Eau De Nil would really compliment the beige tiles....See More- 7 years ago
