Ensuite Reno suggestions, it's dated and dark...
Comments (14)Hello, the way to make the room feel bigger is to take out the ceiling up to the roof line and add an openable / remote operable roof window. Look at Fakro and Velux web sites. A bit of structural work to do in the roof but well worth the effort to achieve a light filled ventilated space. Ideally a " wet room " with no timber products and all stainless steel fittings. No chrome on base metal otherwise they will corrode in no time. If you can try and break through walls for the wall cabinet if there is a cupboard or robe behind this is also a space saving method. The window can be pushed out in a bay to enhance the space. Have not read much of the above but importantly remove all tiles, do not tile over old tiles. Waterproof the shower area walls before tiling. Don't take the glass shower screen to the floor, leave a gap and stand the glass on a stainless steel balustrade foot. Angle or channel fix the other edge to the wall. No need for a door on a wet room. Vanity cabinets are available in plastic but change the screws to stainless steel. Ideally no base cabinet and have a wall recessed cabinet as mentioned above. Don't think outside the square, think outside the box. But you are changing a bathroom for one that is similar sized, worst case mirror the WC over so it gets some ventilation. Option 2 are you kidding me a full length window in the shower? where is the entry to the master? is it coming off the living room? Option 2 good use of the hall, but the planning of a free standing bath in this small main bathroom will make it appeal smaller is there no shower in this option? If you are going to the expense of making wall changes, what about taking the bath out to the eaves, if you have them which will give you 600 mm more space? If the master is coming off the living room? If the overall internal dimension is 4.2 M and you need say 900 mm for entry to ensuite and 100 mm walls, that leaves you with 3.2 M for ensuite. Looks like you are taking out lots of walls, so to me if you changed the access to the WIR and ensuite to the other side, the vanity can be near the full length window, which solves the water issues of it being in a shower, and it would be nice to be pushed out the 600 mm like the bathroom, and if you were willing to give up say 300 mm of space from the bedroom side, 4.2 x 3.1 than you could have hanging space (which goes into that proposed new access point), on two sides and then a total wall of storage in shelves or drawers or places to put shoes and bags and ties and smalls on the ensuite side....See MoreThe difference in benchtop brands?
Comments (6)Quartz by any major manufacturer is basically made in the same way using the basically the same raw materials and process. Caesarstone just happens to be the "COKE" of the stone world and the advertising budget to match. Is it the "BEST" in our opinion there are better options, finishes and prices. Some of the better brands in Australia would be Technistone, Silestone and Samsung for finish, durability, price and after sales service. Though Smartstone have some very nice marble look ranges now as well that look and feel just as good as the top brands. Ikea, Bunnings where, if not still are using caesarstone brands of quartz. Though it does change around. like their fabricating companies...See MoreOrder of tradie work in an ensuite reno
Comments (4)ideally you have an alternative bathroom to use during construction which can take from a few days spread over weeks or months depending on what you need to do ...managing a bathroom reno is a juggling act to have all the trades arrive in sequence as well as making all the decisions about choosing and ordering all the tiles, taps and fixtures etc and, despite having built and renovated numerous bathrooms, we've found that it can be a relief to use a professional bathroom company or builder to organise the sequence of work because you need all the trades to come and go several times for different stages and renovations often uncover surprises that may cause extra delays (asbestos removal or damaged framing or rearranging walls or problems with supplies or trades held up on other jobs) so you could need a carpenter, asbestos remover, demolition and removal teams with suitable transport and equipment, plumber, electrician, waterproofer, tiler, plasterer, renderer, gyprocker, painter and bricklayer and all these tradespeople depend on their next job and are more likely to be ready to work with a familiar professional than a one off home owner....luckily we now have our group of dependable tradespeople (who will also identify and recommend others) and we usually start with having the plumber, electrician and tiler inspect the scope of the work and discuss options, calculate quantities, brands and styles and agree on who will organise supplies and a rough timetable and prices and we make sure that we have all the supplies on site before we have the plumber disconnect the water, electrician make wiring safe and then arrange the necessary demolition and removal of rubbish and then all the trades come back several times in sequence depending on each job and we always keep simple diary notes and send emails to confirm agreements, prices and especially any changes and we also confirm all the trades' white cards and double check our public liabilty and household insurance during construction...so many details to cover but very rewarding when it all comes together...See MoreJeanette Corbitt
