Bluemeeru, yes sink is on left next to dishwasher, which is next to the fridge. I never wanted a sink on the island for the same reason. Water splashes and there will always be something drying on the island. I like the option of having a totally clear island if I need it. Yes, I was worried the sink was too far from the cooktop but it works well for me. I did consider putting a narrow sink near the cooktop just in case I needed water during cooking but left it out in the end. The distance from my sink to the edge of the island is 1.5m. Dishes get taken out of the dishwasher and are put away in the drawers in the island nearest to dishwasher side, as my island is 3m wide. From there it is easy to take them out over the island to the dining table or serve the kids who sit on the island for breakfast. It’s 3.8m from sink to centre of cooktop, which could be considered quite far. I suppose I have gotten used the distance.

Hi Alyssa Alban, For your floor boards - polyurethane with a satin finish is great for high traffic areas or if you have kids and/or pets. It is a hard wearing surface. The alternative is tongue oil for a more natural finish. A stain could be applied to change the colour and feel of the rooms. As for the walls and trims - if you want to keep the traditional look, I would suggest to maintain the timber trims or, if you would like to freshen or lighten up the scheme, I would use Dulux Natural White Acrylic Wash and Wear for the walls, and Dulux Natural White satin on the trims. If you're thinking about the doors, I would go with Dulux Natural White in semi-gloss, which is a nice clean finish. Lea, I got them from the Dulux website. I screenshot certain colours, then posted them to thread. Of course, it’s always best to get sample pots and try your selections where you will be using them...need to see them in all lighting and in combination with each other. You may want to speak with a colour consultant at a good paint shop; they are very knowledgeable and helpful. Also, lots of great articles on Houzz. You can can also post a Design Dilemna if you would like the wider community to mull over your colour palette and offer advice! Cheers.

i have not looked into the splashback pricing yet, as i am still stuck onto the colour fr the cabinets. we have to decide it tonight. I have been looking at warm whites, as suggested earlier in the thread. Antique white USA in 1/4 strength i think will go with the grey colored stone. I have read tht in full strength it throws cream tones. NOt sure if this colour scheme will work. i still have to decide the wall colours for the kitchen. We have finalised hog bristle1/4 for the living area with natural white for ceiling n trim.
