Ideas for ugly front entrance
Comments (8)I don't mind it. I would clean the tiled roof and driveway. Repaint the colorbond fence white or cream. I'd paint the brick front fence the same colour, unless the bricks are the same used for the house in which case, I would keep them as is, but perhaps grow a hedge behind them to soften the harshness of the brick. The gutters could also be repainted in the same colour. Remove the fabric window awnings. Install a screening box for the air conditioner. Replace the external wall light with something more simple and contemporary. The entrance is the biggest eyesore to me, but I can't tell how it currently functions. Is it an open porch which was closed in with some timber? If so, I would open it up again and get a new front door in a bright, welcoming colour like blue, red or even yellow with some complimentary potted plants. If it needs to remain enclosed, then I think the external panelling needs to be replaced with something much nicer and lighter. The garden could also use a little work. I think some low plants or multiple potted plants could help to emphasise the path to the entry and take some of the focus away from the dull driveway....See MoreUgly back of house and garden, and ive no idea where to start
Comments (24)So many great suggestions here for you! What a fabulous house to work with. I would extend the pergola out to where the BBQ is, but scrap it. I also suggest replacing the brick paved area with large creamish pavers & use the bricks to pave the path in a bit if a curve. Utilize the curved area for seating widening the steps as suggested. A couple of large pots with citrus either side. These could be planted later as the garden progresses. Also a grape vine or wisteria planted to grow over the pergola would give summer shade & let light into the house in winter. I would screen the granny flat with either a few hardy bushes or a lattice type screen & grow a passion-fruit, kiwi fruit or climbing rose. If you don't like the climbing thing something structural like yucca's or cordylines, both low maintenance - talk to your local nursery, they are the experts. They may offer garden design too. Also have a look at http://plantselector.botanicgardens.sa.gov.au/ Just put in your postcode & you get a list of plants with pictures, descriptions etc. Enjoy your garden room. Good luck....See MoreI need colour ideas for my front door please
Comments (25)Normally , it is me saying red , orange or yellow for the front door , so its actually great to see just about everyone else suggesting that here ! And although I agree if you are keeping that door ( and it is a nice door ) then the bold colours would go great , and it probably doesn't fit your Kung Fu scheme haha , but how about a similar door but in a really nice solid 'strong grained' timber with a rich mid brown stain ?...See MoreLandscaping driveway and front garden- please comment and advise
Comments (7)I do love native violets but they show their best with some shade. For full sun a very rough forums cover with small white flowers is myoporum. The Gardening with Angus site has a great plant selector for other options. Good on you for looking at standard Lilly pilly - they give you greenery all year around unlike roses, weeping cherries etc....See MoreAndréas Mutchos
