Help me pick a light fixture for my living room! Please!
Comments (12)I would be inclined to go with an unobtrusive light since it's the living room and anything too dramatic or a hanging pendant may interfere with your peripheral vision (or otherwise be an annoyance) when you're watching TV, etc. Also, being so near the sliding door, the wind may cause a hanging pendant to swing quite a bit which will cause the lighting to be constantly shifting and changing which I would personally find annoying. I'd go with something simple and subtle, but look at getting a tall standing lamp for the corner near the sofa (or possibly at the other end of the floating TV cabinet). In terms of warming up the apartment, I think you need something on the bare walls. A smaller picture above the floating TV cabinet will help to take the focus off your TV. A larger art work behind the sofa will also help to add some colour and personality, especially if it picks up some hues from your sofa. If you don't like the little Buddha statue, I would look at adding one or two other items that you do like (perhaps picking up colours from the wall art) and making a little vignette. A couple of colourful cushions and a storage solution for the wires, games console, etc on the floor would also help to bring everything together. Something as simple as a woven basket under the floating TV cabinet might help to keep the games console, etc in place unless it is in use....See MoreHelp me pick outdoor lights
Comments (14)Hi Kristen! Yes to the downlighter but no to the brass sorry : ( The other metals I can see on your facade are aluminium (ie silver/grey) in the windows and white painted steel or iron on the railing. So I would pick from either of those. White lights would look pretty naff imho, so am suggesting silver/grey- anodised aluminium or stainless steel. A stainless or aluminium uplighter/downlighter [as per @Asquithoakley's third pic] would look good on the garage wall as the fixture is down low enough for uplighting to look great. Downlighter-only version of that would look good upstairs as the fixtures are up high. Both would wash the bricks with light and create lovely depth and pattern....See MoreChoosing the Dulux paint colour for cabinets and splashback. Help!
Comments (35)Lea, I got them from the Dulux website. I screenshot certain colours, then posted them to thread. Of course, it’s always best to get sample pots and try your selections where you will be using them...need to see them in all lighting and in combination with each other. You may want to speak with a colour consultant at a good paint shop; they are very knowledgeable and helpful. Also, lots of great articles on Houzz. You can can also post a Design Dilemna if you would like the wider community to mull over your colour palette and offer advice! Cheers....See MoreHelp me pick exterior colors please ......
Comments (10)I would match the new timber to the colour of your gutter as it is attached to the house. The merbau decking is a great colour so I wouldn't do anything else but the stain in your photo. I can't see any concrete in your photos, and I would question whether it needs to be painted? Quite often painted concrete wears and needs repainting. If you can't live with the bare concrete consider a concrete treatment and imprint pattern where the colour is mixed in with the concrete and lasts forever. Best of luck, Dr Retro of Dr Retro House Calls...See MoreDevon Shehab Design
