Hi I love the lounge colour and your coffee table. I think if space is an issue and you need the study area go with the ply wood suggestion on the storage drawers and decorate with cool stationary accessories like bright folders and storge files etc. I love the teal green idea and also apple green cushions. I feel like with the lounge and coffee table style you could get away witth introducing some almost industrial accessories. I think metallics are great to lift a room and there are so many colours ranging from muted neutrals to bright gold and silver. I also love playing with texture and you can get some great metallic wall art, lamps, vases etc mixed with cosy throws and rugs. Hi Sophie, I rather like the pictures on your clipboards and how you have your tools...busy but organised...is that your preferred style to help focus on a task, to amuse, or perhaps encourage creative thought? Start by checking out "study nooks" on Houzz to see what ideas appeal to you - look at what has been done to create the feel of the space... you have a lot of options with your nook and whether you opt for paint, wallpaper, material, a collage, where you place items etc will depend on the specific style needed to help you study and what else you do in that room as well as your budget and how much time and effort you put into planning and implementing it. Copper will certainly richly complement black, and painting a wall is straightforward if permitted, but realise (for future changes) that it takes many coats of a lighter colour to effectively cover up an existing dark colour (even if possible). Also be aware that trims such as the white shelves, brackets, corkboard surrounds etc will add to the overall effect. So, for example covering the corkboard with paper or material in a complementary or matching colour may help tie it in to your theme. When you have narrowed the choices a little, take another photo with your copper pieces included and repost. Hope this helps.

I had a very similar staircase in a commercial building -- if anything it was worse -- there was a 20 metre long hallway leading to it , all with light grey walls and white ceilings , polished wooden steps and handrail . The hallway was concrete floor , painted a mid grey . I own the building , and wanted to lease it out , and didn't have much money at the time ( I still don't haha ) . I did black onyx tiles on the hallway floor ( I realise you aren't doing the floor ) ; 40mm x 8mm varnished pine 'rail' along the wall 1200mm from floor height , and wallpapered from the skirting up to this rail in a burgundy and gold striped wallpaper ( the gold was in 2 stripes of different widths , so I guess you'd say burgundy wallpaper with gold stripes ) . The hallway already had LED downlights , I added a 800mm diameter gold and crystal waterfall chandalier up the stairs , and to finish , I added several prints in gold frames ( I purposely used different sizes ) along the walls ( screwed on as it is acommercial building ) . I thought it gave the place a lift , cost around $3k and a week of my time , the building was leased to pretty much the first business that viewed it , they are still there 8 years later , and they even got a sign made that is halfway up the stairs , with all their details and logo , in gold lettering on black background , with a fancy gold frame around it ! Got a bot off track sorry -- but yeah , I'd do a 'break rail' at least on the wall without the handrail , and wallpaper down to the steps . I guess you could paint , but I wouldn't .

I already know exactly will go in the unit. Ideally 3 open shelves high enough for central speaker, AV receiver and PS4. Ok that's what I though, the brown walnut TV unit I posted above won't do it I think despite being exactly what I need in terms of storage and set up with 3 open shelves. I just came across that one which looked perfect, however the open shelves are too short Thanks for your input, this helps a lot I think I will eliminate the brown TV units. At least now I know which color to go for.
