Roof colour and front facade advice please
Comments (3)What about one of these for roof and deck railings? Trial any colour using sample pots before you commit to purchase, as how the colour look can certainly vary. If if you are hiring a painter for the roof, the downspouts could be done at same time. I would not attempt to paint the spouting myself for reason you mentioned. Otherwise, leave them as is - as lush as your garden is, they may not be noticeable. As for your decking, is it painted? If so, I’m pretty sure you cannot oil it, so could either leave it to weather or repaint it....See MoreUpdating facade - window and brick sill dilemmas
Comments (9)Hi Emma, in response to your two questions 1) You can paint aluminium window frames with the right preparation, however, it gets tricky where the windows open and are in contact with another part of the frame. Your windows look like they are sliding windows, so they will be hard to paint, where they slide in the track. Even if you can paint all of the window frames the new paint is likely to chip where it slides. Being old aluminium frame windows they will be very poor at controlling heat loss and gain (as the window frame conducts the heat) so I would suggest that you save your dollars and replace them with something more energy-efficient. Many windows are made to standard sizes based on brick opening dimensions so keep an eye out for new/old stock, and wrongly ordered window sizes that are for sale on eBay and Gumtree to match your window opening sizes. 2) Your sill bricks are probably cored (with holes running through them) or have recessed "frogs" on the top face. These holes or recesses are concealed in the way that they are laid. If you slice your sill brick diagonally to flatten out the front in line with the wall then they will be exposed and look really bad. There are lots of other more cost-effective ways to work with what you have and improve the look of your home. Comments (5)What are the houses (street / neighborhood) around you like? Many houses being renovated and moving away for the original designs? Or, more minimal cosmetic facelifts? With your spotted gum decking, you'll have a timber clash with the front door. Might need to work around that as well as maintaining connection to the street / area. Kate is on the money ... put the new deck in and upload a picture then. Too many variables with how the deck will look when finished vs the front door and style of the home etc....See MoreHelp! What facade colour scheme?
Comments (13)Hey Wixy. I think colour schemes are (and should be) very much about personal taste more than current trends and "professional opinions". If it we're the latter all houses would look the same! If you like it, go for it. You're the one that will be living with it for years. The important part is that you keep trialling colour combinations and surface textures (and maybe additional snippets of structural architecture) until you find something that really resonates with you (and your cohabitants). Spend the time BEFORE you commit to building. There's tonnes of tools/websites available for visualising combinations, so there's no excuse for rushing this process. Aside from that blurb, I'll add one small resource for potential ideas: I created a video showcasing a range of designs I produced for a home building company and with each design I made 4 colour schemes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MjE__imOIw Maybe something in there gives you inspiration, but keep researching until it feels right for you. Good luck with your exciting journey....See Moresiriuskey
