What colour cupboards do I put in my new kitchen with cream flr tiles?
Comments (5)Hi Khanh.... thanks for this. It appears that by looking at a lot of the Houzz pictures with kitchens on an already existing beige floor, it looks good to have a similar colour cupboard door, but have a darker bench top and splash back/tiles to off-set the beige colour? however any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.....Joanne...See Morewhat to do with my cornices? can I be modern?
Comments (8)Those cornices are both gorgeous and look to be in excellent condition. When extending homes that have some original character and features, there is no need to gut the original rooms. Unless you would like to pretend that the original home never existed and that you have actually built an entirely new home, keeping the original rooms as intact as possible and then, working with your architect and builder to transition into the new rooms in the extension can often make for a more beautiful and original renovation/extension. often the more ‘different’ the two are, the better. Ie, ornate cornice and skirting with original polished boards transitioning to square set and polished concrete for example. if you are wanting an entire new and modern building then buying a beautiful old home would seem an odd choice....See MoreWhat kitchen sink do I use?
Comments (4)Don't look at fashion, but look at how you currently work in your kitchen. In all of the kitchen photos on Houzz there is never even a dirty coffee cup out of place. Think about your household - are they all trained to put dirty crockery straight in the dishwasher? Do you wash big saucepans and let them air-dry? Where does dirty crockery stack while the dishwasher is going through a cycle? Thinking about your households current kitchen tidiness may help you decide about the size and number of sinks and drainers, as well as if the island bench is the right place to display this clutter? Your new kitchen should last another twenty five years - don't spend it regretting that you should have spent a bit extra to move the plumbing! Comments (33)Hi Anne, Your home is beautiful with so much potential. There have been some clever ideas presented but I think its important to have an overall plan that you're working towards. This way you avoid needing to re-do certain areas. With the overall plan you would decide which materials you like and what needs to change and then you can stick to that plan as you roll out the changes. For instance, I think the brick on fireplace wall is a lovely feature of the home but the brick in the kitchen area is competing with it. With the timber panelling, it was certainly a feature of the home originally but these days we tend to paint out the panelling to make spaces feel lighter and more open. We often use Dulux China White when working with robust materials like brick and timber as it has a warm stone like tone. In one of the pictures, I can see that there is a full feature brick wall in another room which should creates a lovely flow and consistency. This is a home in Fairhaven Victoria that looked just like yours (but without the brick) and was painted in the China White. Cheers, Vikki. Your bathroom will also looks great with a touch of paint and a new vanity....See Moresiriuskey
