I strongly recommend that you paint your internal walls, and cathedral ceiling ( in fact, all ceilings, doors, door and window architraves, etc) in a neutral wall and ceiling colour scheme. The key to whether you have brown or grey (or another colour) undertone lies in the colour of your floorboards, which I assume are being laid throughout the house, with rugs thrown on top to add warmth, and denote areas. Why don't you engage a Dulux Colour consultant to pay you a visit? It is impossible to make sound recommendations from digital photos as there is so much variation with cameras, screens, natural day light and atificial light. The second look like they are designed for stairwells so I'd be a bit wary about using them up higher as the light might be a bit "spotlight" and not diffuse enough. I think both styles work with your house design

Where are they to be attached? I too was thinking lanterns suit a verandah but are those log walls? Even if the lanterns can be installed I'm not sure they'd look right? So I'm thinking maybe bunkers.
