An existing slab can be polished or a screed of concrete can be laid and polished (over an existing slab). Both are acceptable. Concrete can/does crack hence they add expansion/control joints and suchlike to control the cracking. 4. is tricky to answer without being on site as there is too many variables. 5. More than likely to be slippery as it's a 'polished' surface. Even outdoor tiles with a course surface can be slippery. 6. Polishing is time consuming. The machinery is that grinds the surface is expensive. It is quite popular so theres a few companies doing it so shop around and look at the different options. Polished concrete looks great but you won't really know the outcome until actually completely ground and sealed. Have a look on YouTube too see how it's done....See MoreFibre cement sheeting instead of concrete slab

Concrete option would be expensive If this is an existing deck with a roof over it the fibre cement option would be worth looking at....See MorePolished Concrete... Yay or Nay?
Comments (15)If it is a new house or a new slab make sure that you your builder knows that you intend to polish the slab so the correct preparations are done, and more care is taken in the top layers of the slab with a good even distribution of the aggregate. Polishing an existing, old slab is always a bit of a gamble as you never know what you will discover. Sometimes the polishing reveals cracks, or patchiness in the distribution of the aggregate, or parts that have been filled or levelled. I have had clients who were so diappointed with the rustic, patchy nature of their old slab once it had been polished that they ended up tiling it with a concrete-look tile, which provided a much more consistant finish. But the process of polishing then tiling was very expensive!...See MoreSynthetic Timber Deck or Concrete Slab Balcony
