Will our Renovation Look Appealing from the Street?
Comments (9)Having a closer look at the house, it could be possible to replace the small window next to your fireplace on the left with a door, and still enclosing the side if the garage, I would also install a timber balustrade form the original front door between all posts, so hat door could remain, but be within an enclosed walk corridor rather than wLk our onto a drive. The ballustrading could become a real feature, and be somewhat of an enclosed verandah if people were en lined to need fresh air, or may want to pollute it with a cigarette?? Either way, it will make better use of this side of the home, your windows are too beautiful to conceal and the light they bring in would be priceless. I think removing the brush front fence and installing a picket fence further beyond your front window could tie into the new balustrade m suggesting, and create a new front of house, and still enclose enough behind this feneline for a private and safe yard. I think I can see a timber gate or fence? This is where I would at a minimum put the new picket fence. Maybe say 1500mm high, which is still a nice view fence height from the street but dprivate enough not to see clothes hanging etc. Glad I could be of some help....See MoreRenovating ex housing commission house. Comments (104)Hello Fianou, Congratulations on your charming home. I think it has so much potential. I love the idea of teal, it is fresh and welcoming. I was thinking to give the home some street appeal and to also make it extremely functional. I would see if you could afford to put a wonderful wooden deck out the front, and then I would have window shutters painted teal placed on either side of the windows to give it street appeal, if you could afford to paint the brick I would paint it in a happier white tone with the blue accessory trim on the shutters on each window and also on the roof trim to tie it all in. On the deck I would have flower boxes painted in the same teal colour or whatever colour you choose to link in the whole story. I can see it can be so sweet and charming and a real place to call home. The timber fence at the side would also link in with the decking at the front. Good luck and congratulations on buying your own home ! Woo hoo !...See MoreStreet appeal advice needed!
Comments (18)I found these couple of pics on houzz. I like both, in the second one (if you just look at the roof line to the right of the path) It shows how you could build the front entrance out just to give the house some shape. and there are endless choices for beautiful front doors. The roof line above the door is the same as yours, and the pic shows how you could add the additional office to the right of the door. I will also add, I am a huge fan of laser cut steel maybe you could build a sort of privacy decorative shaped wall to add balance on the driveway side of your yard, ( something substantial that really stands out) and add feature plants or pots...See MoreEdwardian Fireplace......looks incomplete
Comments (16)Depends on what you are planning to do with the room whether to paint or not, both mantels are missing their inserts. The first photo does look like it's two pieces, the top is Art Nouvea , the second timber mantel looks Art Decco. For me the first photo with fire place I would look into a gas insert to fit, not sure whats on offer, but similar size as how to girl, you can get plain metal fireplace inserts with out tiles. You could use either mantels but I think I'd find another use for the separate mirror, perhaps over a side board cheers...See Moreme me
