It probably depends a bit on the layout of the house. If the areas you want to replace with floorboards are closed off to the more open plan/walkway areas that are tiled then I think that would be ok. Is your carpet very similar in tone to the tiles or is it quite distinct already where the flooring type changes? Another option might be a very easy to maintain, durable carpet in the living areas and a same-toned plusher version for the bedrooms. Kids and their toys tend to scratch and dint floorboards (I personally just accept this as giving it 'character' ) and they do love a comfy carpet or rug to play on. Ultimately do what works and is practical for you and your household.

White-matte cabinets (flat panel, not shaker) and white bench (or maybe epoxy sealed marine ply??...siriuskey can tell you about that), mirror splash. Love the ceilings. I personally would go for a modern, stream-line, no handles, integrated appliances look. This space has real potential to be very cool, even with the slate. It doesn't need any more more texture or darkness. This is a nice kitchen, you should be able to sell it on ebay.

Check with your retailer if they have a return policy on lamps. Try it with warm, and if you don't like it return them for cool. Only you can be the judge as you can see how they interact with the other lights, colours and surfaces at night. Best of luck Dr Retro of Dr Retro House Calls

Hi, I’m very late to this conversation so I apologise for butting in. I refer only to your console table in this pic and you said it looks bulky. I think the issue is the vase and the candlesticks are too similar in height so they add bulk and not enough contrast. I would remove the candlesticks altogether and place the vase offset in front of the picture with the small dish in front again. The picture would be even better if you changed the frame to a white or black with a white matt surrounding the picture, similar to the frame below. Also the lamp casts a yellow light which would be better if it was white. Either it’s the globe or the shade. If the shade, change to an off white or very soft grey. That’s my two cents worth anyway.
