You have a home of character. Currently the whole external picture is unbalanced. Everything on the right is dominant, and falls away almost entirely on the left. From way off left field I would 1. Make the entry to your driveway from the letterbox point. The existing entry point would become garden. 2. This driveway would then curve around to the left and then join the existing driveway up to the garage. 3. I believe that there is too much brick and if finances allowed, would remove the brick driveway and replace with a base and grey gravel aggregate. The grey would have a remarkable softening effect, and would enable all rain that falls on the site to be utilised on site. 4. The area now reclaimed from the start of the existing driveway I would make a garden. This garden, with a tree within, would then balance the whole front picture. 5. I would remove the boxed area and dumpy plant keeping the colours and gravels all the same. 6. Don't use coloured bark - it could have toxins in it, and it looks awful. 7. The row of rocks in front of the house should also go. 8. The garage needs a colour change - the same colour as the brick of the house. This will make the whole front presence appear wider. Your home, as mentioned by others, and repeatedly by me in other posts, should retain the original facade in keeping with the style of home. There is nothing at all wrong with this facade, and it looks like a solid brick home. Cheers Alison

I would go different again , and do the deck on one level , BUT go over the existing step , the 'terrace' and the footpath . I'd possibly do a built in seat along 'this' near end , and you'd step off the deck down onto the grass , or the path on the right hand side . Brown is the traditional colour to paint your deck obviously , but looking at your colours ( I assume pic 1 was when it was rendered , pic 2 is the painting completed ? ) I'd be tempted to do the deck in a charcoal or even a darker silvery grey , AND the window sills in the grey too . Just my take .

Wow there are so many angles on the rooves (roofs?)... I don't know the right or best option but I imagine the deck being curved, to create some interest. I want bug chunky timbers in dark stain like recycled wharf beams or railway sleepers. I think start by removing the little roof over the porch and opening it up flush with the brick wall of the front door. Then install chunky beams (wood or steel) that fly quite high and straight over the void between the 2 sides of the house. I would use a polycarbonate roof in that area to let extra light through and not make the house entrance too dark. The area behind the carport where the deck is level with the rear of house, I would have a solid roof that matching the pitch of the back of the house, or even not have a roof at all. I would leave the entry deck area and the curve unprotected. My only question is this... is this an area you would hang out seeing its quite disconnected from the living areas? perhaps having a more ramp like entrance with interesting trees in the void area and making a matching deck on the other side might work. I just feel if its only going to be an entrance its a big capital investment and an expensive exercise with all the roofing.

I guess the first question is what do you want to achieve ?Do you want a more modern look , or a more useful space ? In other words , looks or practicality ? Looks wise , I thgink you need a plan for the whole house . I'm not a fan of brown , but the darker brown around the window looks good -- the gutters , the dirty white of that canopy , the wrought iron less so . Just me , I'd waterblast everything , I'd cut off the wrought iron ( an angle grinder should do fine ) , and paint the gutters , and the concrete canopy , in that darker khaki brown , or a metallic charcoal 9 that would need the window and surround done too ) . As far as a deck , basically I'd go a square , the size of the 'moon' one there , if that makes sense , so probably 2.5 x 2.5 or whatever the distance from the front door to the very front wall is . Stain it that khaki brown , or charcoal ( the same as gutters etc , not some brown , some charcoal ) . And the canopy I'd 'square' that too in an open beam -- leave the existing concrete canopy , just add and square it off , same size as the deck . Any bigger it will look out of proportion , I personally wouldn't have railings or built in seating ( who wants to sit out the front for longer periods IMO ) , just step down to lawn or footpath .
