we need to make sure that the fridge door opens to suit the person who uses it most and for me that would be door hinge on the right side of the fridge and fridge in the MW position so that when the fridge door is opened i could unload and load from the fridge to the island bench ....btw if the mw is only used occasionally it could be stacked with the wo or appliances or under the island counter and the deep space next to the fridge could be used for a coffee maker?

I would swap the fridge and microwave, my fridge is in this position and is hinged on the left as we already had the fridge but having used it this way it has worked out for the better. This keeps others from entering the kitchen space to get stuff and for me, no problem as there's the bench to unload onto

Your kitchen layout is exactly like mine, with the exception of the MW is further away (situated in butler's pantry). We use the microwave fairly regularly but going that extra distance hasn't been an issue.

I think there isn't much difference in scenario if two people are moving around or past each other between cooktop and sink, or fridge and end of bench. It just calls for people to be aware of each other and use good kitchen etiquette.

And what a clever idea to have a drying room next to your laundry. What a great size too!

I would swap it apart from easy access it will keep hot dishes from the MW closer to the sink and also balance the over all look of your kitchen. cheers

Jojo how deep is your fridge

I'd get a counter depth fridge that would fit where the W/O is and have the current fridge/MW space for appliances.

Fridge is too far from kitchen central for me.

I don't know if this is feasible or not in your situation, but can fridge be integrated using same cabinet material? Good point re visual balance but as MW not used with great regularity, maybe keeping it closer to bench would prove more practical in the long run.

i know you prefer not to have MW in pantry, but I'm thinking a storage closet (to house broom, mop, dustpa, vacuum, etc) next to fridge is worthwhile consideration. That would be my preference in this case.

A pull-out storage closet? If not, suggest closet door to open from left to right, meaning handle on left so can't smack into fridge. Just throwing more ideas out...!

I still like the idea of the fridge to the right, having french doors is so good, you would most likely still have the fridge protrude a bit, hoping the doors open in line with the fridge itself

With having your oven in the same corner also makes sense to open up that space by moving the fridge. Your house will be amazing when it's built with all the thought and effort you have put into it. cheers

I hope you don't mind me saying but I also think it would be better to swap the AP's for the Wall Ovens, the other position gives better clearance for when the oven door is open, the nib wall projects to protect it, The oven door currently opens out over the pantry, Laundry, exterior door entrance and effectively blocks it. cheers

Jojoemetoo, mmm, I dont have integrated either as I don't mind the fridge looking like a fridge. With our dishwasher, only the bottom two-thirds are integrated, leaving the selection buttons visible - that actually looks good and was my first time ever using integrated anything. I understand it's appeal, but your very practical observations are spot on. Glad you like idea of storage closet. Best wishes. Fun and exciting project.

I think the corner that's been proposed to move fridge to isn't deep enough to comfortably house it, and then it being so very close to the exterior stacker doors.

Just from my own experience, I prefer operating noisy kitchen appliances (ie coffee grinder, coffee machine, blenders, etc) in pantry so I can close sliding doors, and people in kitchen don't feel the need to escape for quieter room.

I agree that you don't have to have intergrated appliances to make a kitchen look good, hell you pay enough for the dam things, show them, French door fridges look exceptional as well.

Maybe I misunderstood exact location for relocation of fridge?

annb I hope no one suggested moving the fridge near the stacker doors it's perfect where it is just moved sideways, but the Oven's would be better in behind the Nib wall instead of blocking the narrow doorway to the WIP, it can be very dangerous. The appliances would really be good in that spot as when you finish using them just drop them into the WIP sink out of the way cheers.

My other thought and has been for sometime that I think your wall ovens would be better swapped with the Ap/tall. Having the oven doors opening across the access to the Pantry/laundry and exterior door is not a good idea. The position of the tall unit would be better as it has a Nib wall and won't be blocking any doorway cheers

Believe me I have friends who did similar, it nearly caused divorce when one of their small children walked into an open oven door. the ovens would obstruct the passage way. Love the photo of the kitchen, yours will look just the same with the tall unit and oven swapped cheers
