i think the style of the home needs a more traditional colour scheme and suggest that Colorbond Surfmist (a very pale grey toned white that looks good with Woodland Grey) would look best for all the trim including the cladding above the windows and the panel below the gutter and white for the posts, eaves and fascia with the front door in glossy bright white (or a soft colour taken from the interior decor and toning with the bricks (pink or blue)..not keen on stained front door for this house style) ..happy painting...

i would also prefer Monument but perhaps the frame surrounding the door could be white (ie door jamb and architrave white inside and out)

I'd paint the front door a darker grey than Woodland, and high-gloss. It will make the door stand out. I'll get back to you with colour suggestions. Maybe door trim same colour but flat, not gloss. In agreement with oklouise on other colours. And no to staining door to match something on the inside. I had to smile at that.

Some darker greys to consider for front door. Other idea would be to select black. A quality gloss (water based) or high gloss (enamel) exterior paint for the front door would make it stand out from the matte grey trim colours. Dulux Weathershield exterior paint or similar.

The domino door with whisper white for everything else would look great

White is always smart and fresh and as your window frames are white it is going to blend in and looking stunning.

Monument with white trim looks great,and really fresh.I had taken out the aluminium strips on our windows and with a really good clean the windows look gorgeous! Better view to the garden and a cleaner look with less lines.Id ditch the small detail on posts and it all will be a sleeker more up to the minute look,without making it too contemporary.

Oh p.s and update door furniture to stainless,not to modern though!And easy to change glass in door and economical facelift if it's etched or has colour in it.Just plain glass to brighten up.

Hi Leanne. The wall is also vivid white. It may appear to be a slightly different shade due to the shadow cast by the door frame. And, the semi gloss on the frame would be reflecting more light than the flat wall paint.

It's a reasonably big room. One 10.5m wall was painted a dark camel/khaki colour (puke!). Painting it all white has certainly brightened and freshened the room. But Vivid White may be a bit too bright??? I'm now thinking of re-doing it with a very light grey, to compliment Domino. But I'm nervous. I don't want to do that, and then think, gee, I wish I'd left it white. Decisions, decisions!! ;-) So, I really feel for you, having to make decisions about the outside. Don't second guess yourself too much. I do, so I can confidently say it'll do your head in - try to avoid it if you can!

If it's any help, Domino and white do look smart together. And our neighbours made their 90's home look years younger by going from heritage tones, to a dark grey and off white (not as dark as Domino, and not as stark as Vivid White).

It's also internal, but here's another pic of Domino and Vivid White. You can probably tell we're also mid-decision about what looks best, too!

It will be one more week before I have to give painter the COLORS !!!!!!!!! . The interior walls color , and all the external colors . I think I have panic attach every other days during the whole renovation . It has been going for the last 7 mths ........ . I found I keep asking myself have I made the right decision ??? What if I regret !!!!! How much the builder going to charge me now I change my mind !!!!!! Why he is not answering my phone , email , txt msg ???????

Lol. That all sounds SO familiar. I envy anyone who can confidently visualise a whole room just from a sample on a few square cms of cardboard

Fittingly, I got a sample pot of a light grey called “Lighten Up” today. If you’d like to see the diff between that and vivid white (and against domino), I’ll take some pics tomorrow.

Which colour/s for interior walls and trims?

It would be excruciatingly hard to live through a long renovation, and your feelings of angst and doubt are perfectly normal and okay.

you will get through it. I think now if you can focus only on the exterior and answer the question which paint colours come to mind FIRST for each component. Trust yourself. Then do same for interior.

its been a very long haul for you but it's almost over, I hope. The best thing is that you will finally be able to live comfortably in your renovated home, and that you will no longer have people around doing work, and can finally relax more and start enjoying what you have achieved - because it is no small feat.

Ann’s right. What colours first came to mind?

We started around this time last year, and we’re still going! Surprisingly, second guessing was less prevalent in the beginning; it escalated instead of disappearing, like I thought it would.

After numerous mind changes about kitchen colours, and a bit of a panic, we decided on Domino and white. Whilst it was being constructed, I found a mock up I’d done on PowerPoint ages ago. You guessed it - showing virtually the same colours we ended up with. All that stress and bother could have been avoided if I’d gone with my initial feeling/gut instinct.

Abit of back ground :
--- Hampton similar white kitchen
--- floor Embolton oak mint grey floating floor( dark brown)
---- carpet is grey color



Internal : based in small patch paint on board
Wall :
- natural white , too yellow or cream
- lexicon 1/2 Too blue , 1/4 is too white
- Casper white 1/2 ,looks dirty white
- Gray pebble 1/4 , ???? Color still too grey
- Grand piano 1/4 also too beige
- Hog bristle 1/4 too beige

Ceiling :
White ( vivid white)
Skirting :
White ( vivd white gloss i think )

Basically I want small contrast to the white ceiling and white kitchen with a hint of grey

Any other colors I should try ???

External :

Roof - woodland grey
Post - vivid white
Trimmings - tranquil retreat ? , shale grey ? Or surfmist ??

Just this week, I picked up almost every shade of grey sample card I could. Then lined them all up. When they were together it was much easier to see which ones threw too warm, too dirty, or too red/too blue. I ended up with 4 or 5, and blu tacked them against the vivid white window frames, and watched the colours change throughout the day and night.

British Paints “Lighten Up” is light and cool, day or night. I got a sample pot and painted bits on different walls this morning. I’ll see how it changes with different light. It’s looking excellent at the mo. Light, clean and very subtle.

I’ll give it another coat just to make sure it doesn’t darken up too much. It sounds like we both have very similar colours in our homes. Lighten Up may suit your palette.

I tried to take some pics for you, but they look quite dark, nothing like the real colour.

Dulux “Highgate” is also very similar. “Lexicon” even lighter.

Try snowy mountains - Grey pebble 1/4 does look great though esp against Lam Inez white polar cupboards

Here’s a reasonably big patch of Lighten Up - RHS. If you zoom in you’ll see a Vivid White sample card on the window frame. The existing walls are an off white leaning to warm tones.

Thanks guys for the recommendation . Here are the sample paints against the floor board . Leaning towards natural white and casper white 1/4 . But since casper white is cool tone . Has any one mix warm floor and cool color wall ? And then grey pebble 1/4 for bedrooms .

What about pinky white posts to go with roof gutter. The posts look old fashioned but the rest looks amazing.
