Luke, This is a hard poll Although I voted timber as we have an amazing hardwood sleigh bed that we love, iron beds can look sensational too!!! I wouldn't hesitate to choose beds for our spare rooms when my home is finished, that combine both features with solid timber and strong steel set into some sort of design!!!

Ryan I would avoid the concrete block bedsides, they are a very literal interpretation of industrial and I don't think they will go very well with that bed. I would suggest you go for a really dark charcoal grey feature wall, and I would consider metal framed window style mirror such as the one attached - ideally around the same width as your mattress ends up being or as close to that width as possible. I would use white brick or whitewash distressed plaster style wallpaper on the rest of the room. And if you felt up to it I would consider whitewashing your floorboards. Lighting - I would have 1 pendant on either side of the bed hanging down from the ceiling, so they are directly above the bedsides. You could either suspend from ceiling or fit them on little hooks or similar on the walls like the attached images. For bedside I would go for something a bit more like the attached image - black metal frame and warm wood. However its hard to advise as looking at the image of the bed, the bedhead is much wider than the bed and you don't really want bedsides that are wider than that bedhead or its going to look a bit odd. It will be a tight squeeze so something super slim that is same width as the bedhead (from bed to edge) or alternatively consider a floating shelf type bedside that sits above the bedhead. (depends on how much storage you need here or if its just to sit books on). And colour wise, definitely stick black, white, greys and maybe small hint of something like mustard/ochre or rust. Use bedding and throw pillows to add texture and layers. Enjoy!

Yes (unfortunately) you're dreaming with the endeavour to raise the house, change/reno the upper levels AND develop a whole new lower level for $250K.......UNLESS potentially it's a DIY project. Practically Impossible in a professionally contracted scenario. It's closer to $400Kmin thing Also if you are removing bedrooms for the sake of larger living it's not a very cost effective proposal in that you're essentially robbing Peter to pay Paul from a property value point of view. It would be arguably a cheaper option to consider a new living/kitchen dining extension, rather than a raise/complete floor plan overhaul You're provably best to get some pro design assistance to help sift through your options Good luck PD

Nothing wrong with the bed, but of course it may have been better in cranberry or teal for a boho look. However there are things you can do, yes even with a dark grey buttonback bedhead. Some of those things are scary and some less so. Depends on what boho style she likes. There is the colourful kind..... and the far more boring naturals kind. 1. You can paint fabric. You can in fact buy car upholstery recolouring spray for this exact purpose. Say goodbye to grey, say hello to cranberry. It will change the feel of the fabric by making it stiffer. But since it's on a bedhead and not say a lounge chair it's very likely to last and not look rubbish once it wears. Bear in mind you won't be able to make the bedhead lighter this way. There is also the option to paint it with acrylic wall paint. You will have more latitude to change the colour since it's solid but it will also take on a stiff and somewhat waxy look and feel resembling leather. 2. buy a morrocan or some kind of intricate pendant for the room. 3. Choose patterned cushions not plain. a trellis design, a velvet, a paisley will all work well., Focus on colour palettes involving orange, fuschia, teal, cranberry, turquoise or pastel versions of that. 4 The side table lamp is fine. You might want to paint or wallpaper the bedside table however. 5. You need voile curtains and a velvet or silk-look-a-like drape. Voile is also excellent to make a bed canopy for a very dreamy and aircon friendly look. One of those oversized mosquito nets above the bed does the trick for $20 and you can even string a set of fairly lights in it for an ethereal look. 6. Get a patterned rug. One of those faded and distressed persian styles is perfect.
