Which do you prefer? The Pink or the Yellow?
Comments (13)@ Amanda Cullity....I love all the different 'likes and dislikes' on the Houzz forums....quite surprising the different things that appeal to people. On revisiting this discussion I've changed my mind...and now I don't like either, how about that for weird!? Honestly, if this were my place and I had to make this decision Yellow or Pink today, a good few months down the track from when I voted PINK... I would not know what to choose between these two options. Did you paint the roof with the yellow in it as well? Maybe the photos don't do the house justice. At this point, your having painted the house YELLOW to "tone down all the pink"....I feel its still too much of the one colour. Maybe, contraty to what Rene says, keep the blue pots and put a few more of these around but in a paler colour blue, and maybe a couple of blue accents on the house itself. It has a very distinctive style so you'd need to be careful, it would be so easy to lose its character with the incorrect chouce of accent colour. The YELLOW seems also very warm so maybe try much lighter hues of blue violet pots and for a cool accent on the facade itself. To me it looks like too much of a big block of solid colour....wonder what a couple of blue violet trellises would do if they were placed against the house in the spaces between the windows with the window frames in the same hue? Might break up the "blocK look. I'm no architect but have a lot of experience with colour. This is a diffifcult one expecially going on photos only.. The suggested " trellises" would be just an experiement and if liked could be made into something more permanent. Have you see some of that decorative laser cut-out panelling in metal" Something like that might soften the "block" look. As this is an old trhead, I suppose, Amanda, that you've made some changes of your own. Would you share with us?...See MoreHome Renovation: Do you do the painting yourself or get professionals?
Comments (11)We have always done diy but never again!!! Exactly true that it is one of the last things to be done in either a reno or new build & of course it does save money. You should be aware that you pretty much need to spend all those lovely savings on take away food/alcohol/sedatives (personal choice) to compensate for the loss of arm & leg function at the end of the endless days work. Neighbours may complain about loud music & swearing or nudie runs to the pool to refresh & start the process all over again. Deny the urge to diy if possible & pay someone but get referrals first!!! Tips to all who "do it yourself" 1. It starts with the preparation & the plasterer must be on his game...that's where a lot of the trouble starts & ends with a bad finish. 2. Buy everything in bulk from tape to brushes to rollers to trays etc. 3. You will always be back at the paint counter for just one more tin to either start again or finish up. 4. Stock up on fast food standbys like pies, sausage rolls, pastries, microwave dinners etc. or have the pizza guy on speed dial. 9. Don't ask the children to do any painting unless you have the patience of a saint & are prepared to go over everything they do "to help" or "feel included" 10. On that subject if you have small children do not even think about diy. 11. Book & pay for a holiday in advance while you still have money to recuperate from what is essentially the worst job ever with even more precious time to spend reinstating furniture, curtains, long lost essential items of comfort & most of all sanity. 12. Say sorry to everyone you ever knew & you didn't know what you were thinking at the time, have excuses at hand like......................................................................................... I/We saved soooo much money!...They said it would be easy...Everyone does there own painting don't they...I thought this colour was more red/yellow/green/blue like the sample pot...I rather like the spatter effect & I think it will be a new trend...Surely you know that "Marsala" is the Pantone 2015 colour orf the year?...Don't buy any paint, I have plenty of left overs and a complete range of sample pots...here they're all yours! ;))))))...See MoreWhich white do you like better?!
Comments (75)Hi there, having recently been through a similar decision process for our Reno I can really recommend ordering the Dulux A4 samples. They are made with the real paint on them so you can move them around from room to room to see exactly what it will look like without having a heap of swatches painted on the wall. They have a sticker backing but I used blu-tac so 8 could move them over and over. Good luck...See MorePainting the alfresco, what color do you recommend?
Comments (11)It looks as if the area is in permanent shadow, but even if it's not, I would opt for a sandstone/pale honey colour. Something that reflects the light and also gives warmth to an otherwise very cool area. A couple of planters would also look good - even if you have to opt for faux plants in a sunless area!...See MoreMia
