Hi Joanna We love both! A common misconception we've found with freestanding baths and spas is that they're simply be too heavy to move around for cleaning purposes. To make cleaning manageable, our 100% Australian made baths and spas are manufactured using Gelcoat composite construction which is extremely strong yet not overly heavy (5mm thickness to ensure structural rigidity and increased thermal properties). So one of our baths is typically around the 40-50kg mark which allows most people to easily slide the bath out from the wall for easy cleaning access. You should create the bathroom that works best for you. I have no family but for me a bathroom with no tub is a big no no because I like to have a bath occassionally. Yet I've walked through many homes recently in which the main bathroom had a shower only. A lot of people find better mileage with an oversized shower. Do you ever take baths? Do you ever have small children in your home? Do you need a tub to wash the dog in? Are you going to ever sell this home to a family with small children? If the answer is no to all of those then it may be a better use of your space to put in a shower only. I disagree that a shower over a bath is a big no no in a family home. If you have children under 5 a bath is a must. You cannot bath a small child in a shower [easily]. I've yet to meet anyone that absolutely hates a shower over a bath who wasn't an octagenarian and even then their objection is the fact their balance isn't what it used to be and they find getting in and out physically difficult. Go with what works for you and your situation. Anyone after you who buys this house can put it the way they like it later.

No, builder coming around tomorrow for first time, as is Class 2 designer (been a rush to get a bunch of class 2 consultants on board for a simple reno). So far all my own investigations. The slab is structural, 275 thick with localised thickened beams over the posts in the carpark. Opening it up would probably be refused by Strata. I can go look at the original structural details to see how much cover is over the reo - maybe I can get a 20-30mm scabble and do the rest with screed to cover before tiles. It'd be very flat though. Will need a structural engineer to sign off on the detail, and if I'm honest, I'm uncomfortable reducing cover to the reinforcement as below and think it opens up a bunch of risks. I'll run this past them tomorrow for their comment though.
