Entry Hallway certainly a BIG Design Dilemma ?
Comments (14)I would paint the brick the same colour as your walls then follow the trim work you already have, I then place a sprint on the wall and place your wedding photo else where, I would also paint our door and window trim the same colour as the white trim to brighten the whole area. Also a nice plant but not a high one I think would also look nice,if your not into plants a then a empty bowl,...See MoreDoes anyone have suggestions on landscaping my front yard/home entry?
Comments (10)What a great space and big opportunity. Firstly, it looks as though your soil is fairly sandy and possibly hydrophobic soil - before you decide on actual plans start working at improving your soil so that you're setting yourself up for success (think about a good dose of organic matter, worm compost tea, organic aids like Natramin (a personal favourite of mine) that will help get your soil working with biodiversity, structure and creating a nutritional environment for plans and micro-organisms) and then think about going with natives as they're a bit hardier than cottage/tropical garden plants. Depending on your budget, you could pull out the fence all together or paint it a lighter colour. You could add a fence opening for pedestrian access further towards the middle and wind your path with steppers and gain a bit of privacy with arbours covered in climbing vines,. Don't hold back in putting in low growing plants in front of your fence either if you like (afterall your council ensure that you're responsible for it's maintenance). You could also soften the edge of the driveway using curving edging - taking away the harshness of the straight lines. I'd also look at doing something tall along the fence to balance the pencil pines on the driveway edge. Good luck!...See More1980`s house, should I keep verandahs or convert it onto living area?
Comments (42)Hi there Nick, looking at your photos you look like a modern hamptons family which is lovely, do you live in a warm climate. I did like the photo you posted of the open plan living and think that you are on the right track with interior colours I have marked out how I would like the first floor, I have moved the kitchen to the end wall to line up with BBQ outdoor kitchen, plumbing for this would have easy access via the garage below. The white tiles look lovely and hard wearing for the entrance foyer and Rumpus room, the stairs in timber due to the amount of traffic even continuing in up stairs foyer kitchen dining living, Carpet in bedrooms and downstairs theater. Kitchen in white but possibly Shaker style white doors these are very popular. Using existing sliding exterior doors if possible from kitchen.Dining to verandah, I think this ceiling would be best kept white to help reflect light back indoors, the tiles appear to be in good order but you might consider changing these along with new upstairs flooring Some where for a laundry shute would be handy, actually a Dumb Waiter so you could move the laundry with ease both up and down! The roof painted a soft colour, grey/white or off white, the verandah railing could be the same colour or you could do glass. The builder had a very different style of house to what I think you are wanting. Your photo...See MorePaint colour and overall design advise for entry room
Comments (11)1 -- leave the existing lights , or maybe go bigger but in a similar style . I like those string ball ones -- you could possibly even have some fun and go for a bold colour , depending on the rest of your house . 2 -- wallpaper the feature wall in an 'interesting' burgundy or even reddish/pink pattern , maybe some scrolls or maybe with a fine gold stripe embedded . 3 -- if you want to stay white or any of the 19472 variations through to beige , add a large colourful abstract painting -- at least 1.5metres x 1.2 . 4 -- that 'roof step' where 1 of the lights is looks out of place -- I'd paint the 2 sides in a charcoal/real deep steel blue ( darker than the carpet but still showing some homage to it ) . I doubt it would darken the stairwell too much , but it would look more balanced and cohesive . The bricks are 'interesting' and doing anything with them could be tacky IMO , the stairs and floors are fine as you have worked out , it just needs a feature wall or focus ....See MoreSharon Fevola
