Pergola design? Can you help us decide?
Comments (8)The best place to put it and stay in sync with the architecture would be to align it with the horizontal break of the gable. Make sure the front board is the same width as your fascia board. To incorporate the roof lines it would be best to make larger than the inset and run to half way between the interior corner and the window on both sides.. If you just run it out from the inset it will end up looking like it's stuck in there. You need the wider breadth to match speeds with the roof lines visually. You also need at least 8x8 posts for the scale to look right. I'm also thinking that staining the pergola in a transparent stain in neutral (rather than the stain on the gable) will look best. it will blend in colorwise and tie to the gable but be understated. Painting it white like the fascias will make it jump away from the house. Nice job on the house, by the way....See MoreNeed 2 decide this week out of these 2 designs? PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!
Comments (46)Nice result and a very hard choice between the 2! For those who are interested, you do need to have a handrail that runs the whole length of the flight. We have vertical brushed aluminium rods on the steps that start from the 5th tread (to keep a sense of openness) but needed a wall rail as well. We chose the rod option over glass for something different and with far less maintenance. I think it all comes down to individual taste and what's important to you in terms of overall design...See MoreCan someone help me decide how to paint this massive bedroom?
Comments (9)Great space, Marcie. Certainly, dark colours will help to create a more intimate space. Cool colours work beautifully with white plantation shutters creating a restful space. Looking at the room now, I suggest you need to incorporate some texture. Seagrass wallpaper is a great start. A textured rug between the bed and the large picture window will help make the space more intimate. Add a couple of tub chairs by the window at the edge of the rug, and add cushions and throws that co-ordinate with your final colour choices. You may even wish to add a couple of big leafed indoor plants. Decide on your theme - coastal, tropical, shabby chic, southern belle, contemporary - these all work with plantation shutters - and then add colours, textures, and lighting to suit. Comments (50)Hi, I’m very late to this conversation so I apologise for butting in. I refer only to your console table in this pic and you said it looks bulky. I think the issue is the vase and the candlesticks are too similar in height so they add bulk and not enough contrast. I would remove the candlesticks altogether and place the vase offset in front of the picture with the small dish in front again. The picture would be even better if you changed the frame to a white or black with a white matt surrounding the picture, similar to the frame below. Also the lamp casts a yellow light which would be better if it was white. Either it’s the globe or the shade. If the shade, change to an off white or very soft grey. That’s my two cents worth anyway. Hope it helps 😏...See Morehaephestus
