I think it needs white to lift the scheme-

Could etching be used to create a white pattern on the s. steel - a graceful, flowing pattern would compliment the curves already in the kitchen

Leave as it look great. Please don't replace it with boring glass!

I think a white would help lift the space, and make it more modern.

Hi Belinda, i truly think that the stainless steel splashback compliments the overall kitchen area. It’s very classic looking and also very practical as well. I say just keep it as it is! :-)

l would leave the stainless steel and adds lots of pops of green. Green in the glass fronted cupboards, on the benches and green tea towels. Not a really dark green more limey. I think that would look great.

I agree the stainless looks great! But I also understand wanting a change. It’s a bit silly perhaps but you might try self-adhesive stick-on wall tiles. You can get them a number of places including Etsy. Some suppliers will even photoshop your proposed installation so you can see it virtually before you buy. Have fun!

I love it , don’t touch, just use WD 40 to keep it clean and shiny, you need reflective surface.

PS if you want to change something then take the stuff of the fridge door, otherwise the fridge, range hood and splash back are perfect together and compliment your kitchen cabinets.

I'd go for white or textured silver pressed tin - i think thats white you're wanting as its easier to wipe clean and gives depth. also can put straight on top of existing one. or maybe a tile/pressed tin in the shade of the cabinets?

For mine, the stainless steel splash back, is not working in this space, there is an overuse of metal surfaces all across the room and for me makes it feel a little too sterile and dated. I would look to soften up the kitchen with the spashback area, I personally would look at tiles. It will bring in a new texture and soften the space up. Here are some ideas to work with. Amanda's photo of the white pressed metal tiles looks amazing. I would be very tempted to consider them. They would provide beautiful & dramatic texture in contrast to the smooth surfaces of your cabinets & new benchtops.

Legendaryflame makes a good observation re adding pops of green/olive into the mix - perhaps via some accessories (some textured pieces would be very interesting).

Hi Belinda, I love the stainless the thing that dates it is the heavy glass hood, could you change the range hood, still in stainless but squared off rectangle or similar, or just change the glass hood good luck it's all looking good.

You could remove the whole range hood and add more plain cabinets across between the small glass ones, you could have a ducted range hood built into the cabinet. The stainless splash back would still look amazing cheers

I also think if you removed the two little glass cabinets and chose another or slightly raised the range hood (looks quite low) and then do something amazing right through from bench to ceiling. Like idea of keeping it a pressed tin/stainless look or pale grey tiles with various colours for a bit of movement,
/texture.

Belinda, I don't think the glass rangehood is an issue, and that it will blend beautifully once you change the backsplash to tiles, if tiles is where you are heading. I too appreciate stainless for its aesthetic and practical qualities, but I think it is better suited to a different kitchen style to yours.

May I ask if you have found any tiles you like?

Hello! I personally love it. All I would have done differently is carried the stainless steel to the ceiling and used some more white to soften the purple a little. The eggplant is awesome, just a little overwhelming with the whole kitchen in the same colour. I would have kept the island and right hand side lower storage in the finish and used white on the higher cupboards.

We recently installed pressed tin panels in our kitchen, absolutely love it. They can be powder coated in a large choice of different colours.

In our previous house we had plum cupboards like yours, with stainless steel appliances, white bench tops and a white splash back. I think it just helps break up the dark colours. Best of luck.

Jo, is the pressed metal easy to clean? I'm just wondering if you have to use a particular cleaning solution, or will warm soapy water work?

As everyone has said it looks good but sometimes you just need to update and change.
There is products available, Kerlite porcelain cladding for one.
Kerlite is a thin porcelain cladding that comes in many colours and textures.
Can be used on walls floors bathrooms, outside etc.
I had a small court yard with a door leading to the garage.
I covered the door and the rendered wall to make it all flush and create a feature wall.
Basically there is nothing you can’t cover and the colour and texture range now is unbelievable.
Kerlite is definitely not a diy job, you need the experienced tiler.
Also it’s been out for a while now and I’m pretty sure there is tile cladding etc etc.
maybe google porcelain cladding, there will be similar products.
Check it out I highly recommend it.

Annb, the pressed tin is really easy to clean, because it is powder coated everything just wipes off with a damp cloth. I’m loving it as a splash back.

I’m really liking JoM’s idea of the presses tin. Colour matched to the bench tops and brought up to the ceiling.
adding texture but not introducing another colour.

what did you end up doing Belinda? I am curious because I have a similar issue... and I feel that while it's a great look sometimes, in my art deco house it darken and dominates and I'd love to change it, but I don't know if that's practical. So far I have tried changing up the colours around it and it has helped a lot. So while you asked quite a few year ago and have probably figured it out by now I would have tried coordinating pops of contrasting colors and pattern in the decor to tone it down... blue and white pattern ceramics, yellow. some green potplants.
