How do I soundproof / insulate my apartment floor?
Comments (3)Unfortunately sound travels through structure as well as air. In fact sometimes better through structure depending on the frequency. We have used a product called Regupol which is a recycled rubber mat product that has great sound deadening qualities. However in your situation the existing floor boards would need to be removed, a thin sheet of ply laid down and then the Regupol placed on the ply before relaying your existing floor boards. this would give separation from the floor joists and your floor boards. Filling the cavity with an insulation type product or egg creates will not give you the desired affect. Have a look here http://www.regupol.com.au/au/...See MoreAre you a fan of book towers?
Comments (11)This is a classic example of form over function. I want to be able to READ my book. They are not just there to look pretty/collect dust. It's like the scene in Black Books: "Are these real leather?" "They're real Dickens" "I have to know if they're real leather because they have to go with a sofa"...See MoreI would appreciate some feedback on my design for my assessment.
Comments (11)Hi Tammy, I’d like to suggest that you include measurements on your drawing, perhaps draw a version on scale paper. That way your elements can be placed in the room in the right sizes/proportions, this would give you a much better feel for the space requirements of each item & show where you have empty space that could be put to better use. At this stage, without the correct scale, your sofa & table look a bit small, the bed a bit large & the shower a bit long. Do you have access to any home decorating magazines?. Often they have stories on home renovations which include layout drawings. You could cut out the furniture, bathroom & kitchen etc elements in these layouts & play around with them by placing them in your room. Best of luck with your assignment....See MoreStudent studio apartment
Comments (10)Jules Have a full height closet on the wall where you presently have your desk - built in to that could be a drop down table top/study surface, as well as lots of storage space and shelving. This would eliminate the need for 2 tables in the small space It will also leave space for an occasional chair or two Use folding dining chairs for dining! Multi- purpose furniture is great in a small space! Add storage under the lounge seating - either lift up bins or drawers under the banquette. If the bathroom doorway led to the bedroom - to create an en suite- the occupant would have more privacy Also, hinge the bedroom door so it swings to the wall to give more walk space Remember that bar fridges are OK- using one will give more bench space in the kitchen Another thought to consider is to make the storage in the lounge area full height - the TV can be stored behind doors, thus making the space more open. This will give the illusion of spaciousness You have a good basic idea - hope these thoughts will help you expand your designing skills...See More- 7 years ago
