Ceiling and wall lighting in our lounge room
Comments (2)HI there, can I ask - is the room quite foreshortened in these photos? the two pendant lights suggest the room might have once had a dining area. Our front living room was extended in the 70s and an extra pendant was put in, but I thought it looked quite odd, so have moved wiring to one central fitting. If you did go for a central fitting instead, you could make a bit more of a statement. the last pendant shown above looks lovely - obviously you would need something that throws a lot of light both to the ceiling and the room. Regarding fabric for a sofa (are you going for a modular so that you don't have to negotiate so many furnishings? I think this room would look very classy with a caramel/coffee textured weave linen fabric (a little like the aforementioned pendant shade!). I have used that sort of colour/feel with many living areas featuring a lot of dark timber. Have fun doing up your space! :)...See MoreOne shower head or two?
Comments (2)Unless you both like showering at the same time, OR you want to install a rain shower one end and another type of shower another, I would recommend installing only one. At 2m you can have your towel rail and bench at the opposite end. Will you have a fixed glass screen or doors?...See MoreOne or two bathrooms in a new build??
Comments (23)We built about ten years ago. If you've ever read Susan Susanka's books about the "not so big house" concept, that's where we were coming from. The attention went into the efficient design of the house in relation to topography and orientation, and into the quality of fittings. We didn't want to have rooms we didn't use. So, 165 sq m, 3 bedrooms (one became the study), a small but very efficient g- shaped kitchen, open living/dining. We did have two bathrooms - one en suite, the other a combined bathroom /laundry - but while both had showers, neither had a tub. Bathrooms without tubs aren't very marketable to families with young kids, admittedly, but older folk often prefer showers. I do yhink having only one bathroom is problematic, but sticking with 3 beds, no study, isn't. We have an aging population looking for smaller, better houses....See MoreBathroom tiles - run floor tiles up one or all walls in shower?
Comments (8)It can either look really dramatic or too dark, depending on the size of the room as well as your other components. I've attached a couple of images of our work using dark tiles, the smaller bathroom we have surrounded the bath with dark tiles but then balance it with an extra large mirror to bounce the light around the room. The larger bathroom we have taken the floor colour way onto the wall but used a different texture on the walls for drama. Hopefully this gives you more of an idea but you shouldn't to nervous of the room being dark, it's where you can create a contrast as well as textures. Look forward to seeing what you go with in the end....See Moresiriuskey
