Renovation: skirting boards and cornices?
Comments (18)I have a conventional concave cornice and I get plenty of cobwebs in the 10mm step out from the wall plaster (but not so much the step out from the ceiling plaster, or maybe it doesn't show so much there). If you are replacing the ceiling I would go with a shadowline rather than square-set which will show every wobble in your plaster or paint. I don't think it is feasible to install a shadowline into an existing ceiling (which will usually have a ragged edge under the existing cornice) but I could be wrong......See MoreSkirting boards and other trims ...
Comments (9)If you are thinking about painting the trims and skirtings, I suggest painting them a gloss white, it will not only brighten up your hallways and passages it will make your whole house look brighter and fresher!...See MoreTile or wooden skirting boards painted white in a new modern home??
Comments (21)Levarne Sobotker....although the tiles are beautiful you are very brave having those very glossy tiles throughout your whole house...from experience of having glossy tiles - they show every mark and really need cleaning multiple times a week - and you can't just mop very glossy tiles because the water marks show when they dry on - so you have to do small areas at a time and dry as you go - it will take an age to clean them if you have them through a whole house. We have gloss tiles in a couple of bathrooms and I would never choose them again. They are also very slippery when wet....See MoreSkirting board drama.
Comments (4)I can’t quite see the photo clearly enough to comment but in real life I’ve seen floor coloured gap filler used, and also mini quad. The mini quad will involve some tricky angle cuts but give you the best finish without pulling up the floors. PS I have the same plaster, it’s impossible to patch particularly if it’s textured. One hint, if you’re doing more work on your house. In one clumsy kids bedroom I’m using a VJ lining panel up to the picture rail. Saves matching or patching the old plaster....See Morespmm
