House Exterior Ideas
Hi,
We bought this house last year and after doing a few necessary maintenance items (mostly drainage, hence the messy front lawn). What would you do to increase street appeal?
We have ideas of cement bagging the house and painting a neutral tone with eventually adding colorbond roofing. We have been told though, because of the raked bricks, bagging isn't going to be an option. Is that true?
We did have a friend 'bag' a section of bricks that we are going to pull down as a test run, but it came out very thick and the outline of bricks is barely visible.
What would you do with the house exterior?

Comments (11)Hi there, the proportions of your home at the front are very good to work with - you could easily go cottage style or modern. I think it is the apricot/beige colour of the render and the black windows and ironwork at the front that is letting down the facade, luckily you have a roof colour that will work with many wall paint colours so lots of options for repainting the render. I cant see if your windows are timber or aluminium, but if timber painting them off-white would make a huge difference as would replacing the ironwork posts with timber posts, some timber trims and railing. That style of facade works equally well with a bold paint colour or a lighter colour, so again you can opt for a classic or modern look. Is all that paving needed, is it for parking? If you dont want to remove it then perhaps just taking out some pavers in the center to form a large square and planting a feature tree (edged with box hedges or planted around with groundcover) would look amazing and break up the large paved area. Comments (13)I love all your thoughts. I would like to create an entry near the side of the house and have a raised walkway/deck which is enclosed with timber slatting. This could separate the garage and make the entry special. I love the timber work and could include this at the back of the garage. Hoping for a new double driveway which would make space for two cars to be pull up on the driveway but only need one car under cover. I don;t think I will add a garage door just leave open. I would still like access via the back part of the garage to the back yard. Difficult to change the size of the front windows. I will try to take more photos and post. Does anyone know of where I could source someone to draw up a 3d image of changes to the front for a minimal cost. Would love a low 50's front fence and will definitely improve the garden at the front, remove all that is there and replace...See More

Congratulations on the purchase of your new home. I would suggest framing the windows white and painting the home with whites and greys.
Your brick apprears darker then this example. However the shutters on the sides of the windows give a lovely cottage family home feel. If you did these in white they would lift the colour of the home. Possibly add a timber deck over the concreate front to add colour. Suggest taking away the hedge at the front of the house and replacing it with a stone path to the driveway.
