Best memory from your childhood bedroom?
Comments (38)I was about 12 when I got my own room. Previously I shared a room with my mother as she was widowed. I chose the wall colours, aqua, a brownish colour and two burnt orange walls. Sounds dreadful but the colours were more subtle than they sound. I had an aqua chenille bedspread and and blue and white see through curtains that blew in the breeze. Out of my window I could see an orchard of plum trees. On the floor was a patterned carpet with a rim of polished floorboards (only the edges polished). A bookshelf, a desk, a wardrobe, a dressing table and my grandmother’s sandalwood glory box furnished the room. Love this post as it brought back memories of the 1960s for me....See MoreBest bedroom wall colour?
Comments (4)I would Get inspiration from the elements in the rooM that won't be changed, like the carpet. The gunmetal grey sounds nice and gender neutral. For guests, short stays should feel friendly, and have you want to return, I would think hotel and personalize it. I would use a warm grey that will allow for many linen changes, and create a Moody atmosphere by night. BecUse the focus is either the window/ light it can afford the depth of colour. Try dulux exposed elements. If possible position the bed opposite the wardrobe so you can install a tv in it etc create An entertainment hub and still keep the window for view. Floor to ceiling sheer curtains will help the space feel bigger as you seem to have tall things on 2 walls. Good luck. ML Design...See MoreHelp required to revamp Baltic pine bedroom furniture!
Comments (13)Hi buchlo, if you use a chalk paint you don't need to prime etc. I recently used Annie Sloan chalk paint with Annie Sloan wax finish to paint a dark wood TV unit. It looks amazing. It lightened up our room, I put new handles on which I involved filling the old holes up. The chalk paint covers everything. It is expensive but great finish. The wax easy to apply and drys hard. I love it. There are only a few outlets in Australia, I am in rural WA and buy on line from a shop in Carine in Perth. Postage is reasonable considering it is paint. I am about to start some new projects using it. Lots on you tube on how to use the chalk paint. The colour range is just lovely. If you want a white finish go antique white as has better coverage than pure white. Don't forget to post before and after pics no matter what you do. Ps I paint everything, but look up 'how and what' to use so you get the finish you want and you only have to do it once...See MoreMaster bedroom, WIR and en-suite design
Comments (12)reluctant to lose the convenience of outside access to a toilet my suggestion sacrifices a little space off the lounge and bedroom to keep the extra toilet and use the original laundry space for a bigger ensuite with separate toilet and double vanities, the new extension makes a more spacious wiw with only standard doorway openings to the new rooms but the ideal outside door for the laundry will depend on the location of the drying area and you may decide that a western door or no outside door (and walk through the verandah?) could both add more counter space to the laundry and, much as i like the gable roof for the extension, it would be interesting to obtain a comparative quote for a simple skillion roof (and raked ceilings for the new laundry and wiw) that may save a lot of extra roof structure that doesn't add anything to the inside of the new rooms or streetscape and could be much cheaper.....See More- 7 years ago
