Hi Claire, do you think it is to do with symmetry, maybe carport needs an outer wall to balance brickwork of house? Landscaping will make a difference, I think. Could the two sets of double posts at entry be changed to two larger single posts, perhaps?

Can you elaborate on where you feel it is lacking. I like the look of the facade. Not sure if your adding a garage door but this could be the aspect that may make you feel it doesn't look complete. The facade is more of a classic design, which I love I feel the front door may look too modern for this design aesthetic. Possible look at other front door options.

I think it could be the carport it doesn't appear to be under the big roof and is just an ad on to the house, ask them to remove the carport and show you what the house looks like. It would look much better under the same roof with the carport garage gable coming off that.

I agree w/MB D & D a change to full gable for carport and elimination of small Dutch gables would certainly change the look. I also think porch could be made to feature more prominently. Other than increasing height of its roof, could also consider increasing height of foundation (is it slab?) which would necessitate a couple of steps onto porch/verandah. I know this would increase cost of foundation somewhat, but an idea nonetheless. Our builder suggested that change to our new build, and it did make a positive difference.

annb1997 has a good point Re: steps to porch.

If you do it on a waffle pod slab you could easily raise the dwelling to about 350-430 above ground which would allow a couple steps and all for little extra cost. If you went to bearers and joists on piers you could go even higher.

I agree with above, the porch looks lost in front of the bulk of the roof. The roof dominates it. You could create a frieze above the existing porch gable and then raise the porch roof line by lifting the gable up completely.

Also, the posts are set at a position that would really suit a larger porch roof line (width). It's just me but I would probably have the roof line wider than the column base.
