How to make brown aluminium Windows look better?
Comments (12)Honestly, cladding the house in grey because it is trendy right now is only going to date your renovations and is not going to do anything special to the house. What is the finish on the house now? I'm assuming you are cladding to save on maintenance which is very wise, but if you paint the windows you are only going to start another maintenance issue. The finish on them now has been designed to last - paint won't. I also note you have brown posts on the verandas, brown/cream tiles on the ground and a cream fence - this all has to be taken into consideration if you want to change to a grey palette and achieve something really special. It has to be a total package. Unfortunately, colours do not reproduce on computer screens so there is no point in me suggesting colours, but I would call in a cladding specialist or 3, they are used to doing this type of work and generally know what the finished result will look like to advise you. They should be able to suggest colours that will blend better with the browns and creams but still give the house a more individual and timeless look. If you are still not sure, put the photos of your house onto a Paint Company's website and paint it in a similar colour. To me though, this house really needs some softening, I think a bit of a cottage look will make it look much more warmer and welcoming. It is just not blending in with its environment. Work on your landscaping - look on Houzz for some ideas for a front path to lift your home out of the ordinary, you don't have to spend a fortune, just be creative, change the hand railing, maybe even fence the veranda or grow a hedge in front of it and screen one (or both) ends of it to give you some privacy to sit out there, Perhaps grow a creeper across under the guttering to really soften the front of the house and make the veranda more welcoming. Beautiful, well kept lawns and gardens and some special outdoor areas in your back garden will really enhance the house so the brown windows will cease to become an issue....See MoreWhich railing (balustrade) is nicer ?? 1 or 2
Comments (48)I like both ideas, however think it's good to consider the practical as well as the aesthetic you are wanting. Consider your space and picture how each would look in the space you have. To throw a few more ideas at you, here are a few pics I just found on Houzz. There are certainly some very cool designs happening in the architectural world. Just decide what moves YOU and to heck with what a builder thinks-it's not his house (even if he is a relative). :)...See MoreAlready have a cabinet maker for kitchen but need help with colours?
Comments (19)Hi Michelle, There are many independent designers (both kitchen & interior) that would be happy to put together a colour schedule to suit the kitchen design that your cabinet maker has prepared, so a few phone calls in your local area should have this sorted for you. Alternatively, we offer a cost effective 3D rendering service at The Interior Difference (check out the examples on our Houzz profile) customised to your colour selections to assist you in ensuring that you have made the right selection before you commit to the colours. We find this is really helpful for client's who have a good idea of what they think they want but just need a visual to give them the confidence to proceed. Feel free to send us a message if you have any queries. Good luck with your project!! Rebecca - The Interior Difference...See MoreNeed help on exterior colors, all over the place at the moment!
Comments (6)1. colours...simple way to reduce choices is to start with the Colorbond selection and eliminate the ones you don't like and there will only be a few left to choose form...oskuee's suggestion for shades of the same colours sounds ideal..eg Colourbond Mangrove or Gully with Surfmist fascias and eaves and consider painting just the front windows for a fresh new look 2. if you can't live with the arches the cheapest way to modify the appearance would be to add a continuous painted panel of timber across the top of the windows (or better still custom made powder coated painted steel to match the windows...ask a steel fabricator for a quote including manufacture, powder coat and installation over the top of the window to hide the arch...try a piece of painted cardboard in place to see if it makes enough of an improvement to be worthwhile 3. balcony rails painted (powder coated is much more effort but gives a range of textured finishes and is more long lasting) in darkest grey/brown? to match the windows and check repair and repaint the balcony floor and the flower pots 4. balcony support columns look quite flimsy and i would check that they meet current required safety standards check Australian Building codes or a structural engineeer consult not cheap but worthwhile.. and regardless of being big enough i would prefer more substantial looking square support colums with an extra column between the garage doors and the balcony railing may not be tall enough for current safety standards (check BCA) and consult a fencing contractor to identify options to add extra railing across the top or replace the whole railing 5. garage doors will always stand out because of the angle of view...try the darkest shade of the new colour but lighter coloured doors may be worth trying (you already know how the dark doors look)...try hanging a sheet or similar over a door to see how a light colour feels and then painted newspaper stuck on the doors to test different colours 6. i would prefer the gable to blend with the roof..it's too small to be a feature from this angle..paint the barge board and gable end to match the tiles 7. if the concrete stairs are in good condition just try a water blaster to clean the concrete and leave natural 8 and, while you have the water blaster, clean the brick walls and driveway and check and repair any broken pavers or missing grout...See Morerobandlyn
