Does anyone make custom wooden rangehoods in Australia?

My husband and I are building a hamptons style home in Perth, WA. I am looking for a custom wooden rangehood like the attached but I have had no luck so far.

The only option I have been able to find is getting it made in America and getting it shipped over here which will be a fairly complex process.

If anyone has done something similar or has any recommendations, I would really appreciate the assistance?

A local carpenter should be able to knock that up for you quite easily cheers

this is'nt a wooden rangehood....it's a simple framework with added trims built to resemble a fireplace with a very high opening and a built in exhaust system ...a more elaborate than usual wall cabinet that can be built by a carpenter or cabinet maker...talk to the plumber and electrician for advice about a suitable rangehood or exhaust system that will function at the higher level than the standard height above the cooktop...you may have some luck with a commercial product designed for commercial kitchen then, once you have a suitable rangehood the cabinet can be built around it

A chippy can create any kind of decorative effect you desire (its just fibre board and mouldings) and you can vent the mechanical hood under it. I have a godawful stainless steel modern hood in my vintage cottage. I'm sure the last residents loved it, but they failed to actually have the hood vented properly. It just vents into the roofspace. So I now have the opportunity to remove the largely useless anyway hood and start over. I'm planning the same as you. A faux hearth, boxed in with fibre cement board and then with decorative mouldings attached. The actual mechanical part will be properly vented outside.

We have a glass rangehood similar to Futuro Futuro's Acqualina Glass product and I love it. The top and bottom of the glass gets given a clean about once a week with citrus multi-purpose cleaning spray and then wiped down with a moistened glass cleaning cloth for a pristine finish. Takes around 5 minutes in total. Cleaning the brushed stainless part is more difficult. As mentioned previously, its hard to remove all the marks. Will definately try the WD40. Me, personally, I don't like the mirrored finish. Given the window is acting as the "splashback" I would have gone for something invisible like what Sheryl Horton showed.

In the interest of keeping your kitchen friendly to as many users as possible, may I suggest you avoid knobs of any description. Older people and those with disabilities/reduced function of the hand/arm/shoulder often struggle to grasp and pull on a knob. 'Push' closers and D (or U) shaped handles with a min of 50mm height from surface are much friendlier in this regard. We are building our retirement home and - although we are both well and dextrous at present - it is so easy (and much cheaper) to think ahead, we're discovering. Setting up the place to be comfortable for as many users as possible is also pretty satisfying. Personally I'd like brush satin steel long D handles with an elegant line. Black on black might be hard to see for some and in low light.

I’m currently wanting to have the same thing in my kitchen remodel. I know this is six years later but can you tell me how it went, what did you end up doing? I’m in Perth and still can’t find one all these years later! except for some 6-9k Etsy ones!

Hi Hu, Siriuskey's advice is still relevant today. To have something made that is the correct height width and style for your kitchen, having it made with an extraction system, & it be painted properly and installed properly, I recommend contacting a local Cabinetmaker, Custom Kitchen Manufacturer.

There are plenty of DIY projects on Pintrest for making the wooden hood to go over the rangehood. Good to understand the process even if you don’t want to construct it yourself.
