What about some slimline feature timber shelving on the end of the wood store to work with your other timber features. Use one section to mount a TV on the wall with a bi-fold slimline fully adjustable mount arm. Power / TV antenna could be run in conduit on the inside of the wood store. If a deeper area was required for other AV equipment, you could create a pocket into the timber store area for a deeper shelf immediately under the TV.

Laura, other than the TV, what configuration of furniture do you want to place in this room? Also, are you purchasing all new furniture?

Hi Laura, what about a tv under the high slimline window (behind the red lounge in pic) and arranging furniture around that point? Would be interesting to see the neighbouring rooms that enter/exit from the family room?

annb1997 - yes, all new furniture. Hence, can purchase sofas in whichever configuration suit the room, as long as it sits around 4 to 5 people.

And where the lounge is near the fireplace.... you could even make that a couple of recliners or a 2 seater + recliner? Whilst still allowing an entry/passageway into the room?

My only concern is having the sofa back to the fireplace. I've never had a fireplace before, so I don't know if that's an issue or not, both aesthetically and comfort-wise.

I feel like the fireplace wasn't really used as a gathering place for people, as in there is no seating in front of it. Is that because the fireplace is situated in a walkway to another room? What space directly adjoinins this room?

Would you be able to have a seating arrangement in front of fireplace without obstructing path to the other room/s? I would need to know this to see if the furniture I'm thinking of would suit.

In any event, I think the upper half of brick cavity where logs are stored could be modified and used as a place to mount your TV. I'm thinking some sort of structure could be built into the cavity and the TV mounted to it. This would require the services of a qualified carpenter to ensure the entire structure is properly and securely anchored to the brickwork, and to ensure it can support the weight of the TV, especially if a pivot mount is used.

Barring this idea, is there adequate space in the opening between fam rm and kitchen/dining area which could accommodate a purpose-built unit for your TV? In other words, built directly to the right of the brickwork?

what's in the room around the corner from the wood storeage? is it possible to extend that space to be at least 1200mm wide and then have the wood storage horizontal up to table height with wood stored below a deep chunky shelf and wall hung tv above and the furniture faces the TV and the fire along the same wall...a floor plan including dimensions of the family room as well as all the adjoining rooms would confirm what's possible

Having the TV underneath the Slim high window is definitely an option, you would just need to be careful of the lounge spacing, as it might be blocking off the fireplace too much, and it seems to me that the fireplace can be quite a striking feature to the room. Great space though!
