Help! What do I do with exposed bricks?
Comments (11)What an amazing house, almost looks like a church inteiror and you are blessed with incredible amazing space, use it! No pun intended. Architecturally this has so much potential, however to reign in the era a litel I would unify it in colour or material. I suggest rendering our the bottom walls up to that solid plaster line around the entire space, and keep it 'white', whichever shade you use. I would then play up that ceiling, and line the top portion of walls in a vertical lining board cladding sheet, which is easily adhered right onto face brick. Again, I would paint it white, with tones and texture creating interest rather than introducing a busy colour palette. Furniture can do this in your own, flexible Tatar without overpowering the interior. The light fixture is fantastic, and suits this space well, use other structural elements perhaps vertical sculpture or mirrors, art ect on the gallery like walls to make it feel more residential and less of a chapel. The marble floors are expensive, and therefore I'd work with them, they have been at some time a real investment, so consider the colour palate and tile geometry in your scheme such as rugs or upholstery....See MoreWhat to do with internal brick walls HELP!
Comments (9)What a cool house design! Off the top of my head, I think I'd be inclined to paint the brick surrounding the sliding door (1st image) and either paint the pillars or clad them in same timber as the ceiling just inside that same sliding door (1st image). I'd be tempted to leave the large wall as bigreader suggested simply because it's such a magnificent feature. If you live with it for a while then still not loving it, then paint it. While I like the chandelier, it doesn't really suit where it is, as Warren pointed out. If you wanted to change, best to consider if there are any other electrical changes you want to make and get an electrician out only the once. As far as paint colour goes, do you know what the current wall paint colour is?I'd paint to match the wall colour and complement the carpet, but important to know if you like the current colour or want to change. Also it would help to know what your own plans for the interior style is. Do you want to remain true to the 80s with just a few tweaks, or change it completely? About the balustrade, do you want to change the colour of it as well? Is it also made out of glass (couldn't quite tell from photo)?...See MoreWhat should I do with an ugly curved brick wall?
Comments (71)I love the drama of the brick wall and it is a major design feature of the house... however, there is a LOT of exposed brick with the fireplace surround also being exposed and you have mentioned you dont like the colour. Have you thought about covering up the other walls rather than this one, to tone down the brick work? I just wonder if you hate the amount of brick and you are taking it out on this wall because that's where it is concentrated while overlooking the rest of the house? Just food for thought... more food for thought. BTW I love the idea of hanging plants (though watering them might be a pain), I love the idea of a dramatic feature pendant and I also love the idea of the rug, all will soften or harmonise the drama. www.billyhoostudio.com...See MoreWhat to do with this brick wall?
Comments (11)Assuming that is your neighbours brick wall. A dark colour would look wonderful, and your unpainted fence would blend in with the dark colour. BUT, have you made your neighbours aware of the massive cracks in the mortar of that wall. I would check to make sure it is structurally safe before painting. From the photo, it appears the tree maybe holding the wall from collapsing?...See More- 6 years ago
