Kitchen Layout Advice

I am finally getting to renovate my kitchen! This is the plan and colours so far, I love the red stripes so dont try and change my mind! The green cupboards in the photo will be the red stripe. Have I got my layout right? Is there a better way to do things? Thanks Cassandra

Comments (4)Hi Mel, You have the right idea to place kitchen on south wall. I wouldn't mind laundry over there too if possible. The more north wall for living and sun light the better. I believe a generous pantry can be waltzed in with modified bathroom layout and kitchen having a similar layout to what is shown here. If you wish to supply clearer dimensions I'm happy to play! Also lets try to avoiding the internal toilet we can look straight at as we entry home and walk down the hall. Windows to kitchen even with fence view is excellent for cross vent, light and can have outlook to hanging herb baskets. The good old garage at the rear using miles of land for drive! The latest craze for installing by-fold doors is great but they do not allow for small inlet of fresh air such as is required in cold weather. A few windows will providing air movement and cross ventilation much safer than having to leave a door open. Comments (11)Reposition laundry door and external door. Position washing machine and sink in laundry along wall. Use walkway for your extension to kitchen area with a wall of pantry cupboards. In such a small space a walk in pantry is a waste of space. Remove wall between kitchen and lounge. Comments (16)I agree about not putting the fridge on the other side of the walkway through the kitchen. However, I think the same about the microwave - unless you hardly ever use it. And if you hardly ever use it you could put it below bench height and put a wide shallow pantry where the microwave and fridge currently are. I use my microwave a lot and so have it at about bench level with a put-down space beside it. If you do decide to leave the pantry where it is (with a cavity sliding door), then it has some advantages. It the most efficient way to use an internal corner. Comments (51)And if you thought I couldn’t be any more indecisive! We were planning on building in the subfloor, but after talking to engineers + certifiers, it’s a very big project. As such, we now aim to add a ’multi-purpose’ room here for WHF, downtime away from a new baby in the middle of the night and an occasional guest room if required. Given this, we need to incorporate dining with the space left over! Back to the drawing board haha...See More- PRO

8 years agoWhats on the other side of the fridge, I used a Wenge laminate mixed with a plain approx 16 yrs ago, still looks good
