What was quoted to you for cost of roof installation, and was it itemised so you can see exactly what thickness the foil-backed insulation builder will use? I'm guessing the thinner (lower R factor). So, the new quote should reflect a credit for the cost of previous insulation, since it won't be used, then cost of thicker insulation added. Does that make sense? You have a smart, crisp home with a traditional style. It looks like your windows are maybe a powder-coated aluminium in white. It is quite a big exercise to paint these as the frames are so narrow. A smooth powder coated finish needs a bit of preparation (without damaging the glass) to prepare it for new paint. Had you considered where your black paint stops? At the moment the frames look like they are the same colour on the outside as the inside as they are powder-coated aluminium. If you paint them black on the outside, then it will look messy if you leave them white on the inside. I would be maintaining the white window frames and spending the money saved on a better finish for your concrete slab verandah. Possibly a deep blue/grey slab finish similar to Ironstone, and pick up the tiled window sills in the same colour. I would also consider painting gutters, fascias, arched beams and posts all in a crisp white, possibly even Dulux Vivid White, to match the window frames. This scheme will be timeless, understated and elegant, and will complement the red terracotta brick and ironstone roof beautifully. Did you think about using some colour , or maybe even timber , instead of grey and light grey and off-grey and greyish cream ? Hamptons ( apart from being a different building style ) is crisp white , high quality accessories and maybe a stronger grey or blue . If I wanted to get anywhere near a hamptons feel ( not even technically correct for Hamptons 'style' ) I'd go option 3 , BUT with a stronger roof vent , the door column in a high quality schist or similar stone , multiple paned windows , a cedar garage door ( or maybe crisp white with mid blue surround , but you'd have to carry the mid blue through to the front door and probably gutters and even highlights on an otherwise crisp white front fence ) . I know thats blunt , but there are whole suburbs that are variations of your design and colours , and they aren't in the Hamptons ( unless the Hamptons is a suburb of Newcastle or Adelaide ) .
