Design help- steep block

We are in the very early stages of planning our new home. It will be a knockdown rebuild. We have a steep block (slopes down to the road) which backs onto a reserve. We are trying to decide whether we keep to the footprint of the existing house (which is leveled flat) or step back up the block. Current house is essentially 3 story- garage underneath with 2 levels above. We have good views out the front but also a nice green outlook to the back. We were considering doing an upside down layout with the living areas upstairs- mainly to make the best of the views but also so we could connect out to the slope at the back- perhaps via a deck- to make better use of the site. We will be clearing/regenerating small pockets of the rear of the block and want to make it more accessible. Or we could stack the levels back up the hill and lose the existing courtyard but may lose some of the views if the neighbours decided to rebuild. We would also be extending into the area rated bushfire prone if we went back so this would have implications.
Just after any ideas/suggestions/things to consider/random thoughts while we get our head around what we want and before we approach an architect. This will be our forever home so we want to get it right.
Thanks for any advice :)
