When we bought our place we swapped to a frameless shower to open up the bathroom and get something that we could "live with" until we could do a major reno - what we found was because the shower area was very small (under standard spec) and had a pretty crappy fall to drain, so depending upon who used it we got a little water spread or a lot of water coming out. Check the fall of your floor to the drain and install a low flow shower head. Also check where the shower head is pointing during your shower - angle it away from the screen door - sounds obvious but because there is a small gap between the stable screen and the door if your shower is hitting that (either directly or with run off from your body - elbows out when you're washing your hair for example) that water will run straight outside. Hi cjones2011, It's a bit late, but do you have any photos of the finished result?

I am struggling to find any pictures of where someone has the shower fittings higher than their shower screen to see how odd it actually would look like. One of my 101 learnings about getting the wrong tradesperson to "project manage" my bathroom renovation (until he went MIA), was not voicing louder to the plumber's assistant who actually did the shower connections, that what the "project manager" had suggested for heights of shower connections was way too high. I had actually double-checked it on the previous weekend with a friend and we both thought that it needed to be lowered by 100-150 mm, but when I said this to the "project manager" he ignored me as did the plumber assistant who made the connections....I know how a handheld shower only (which is all I wanted) fitting that is at 2070mm in one bathroom and 2020mm in the other bathroom. As there is no shower rail (because I wanted things to look simple), I get my daily stretches just to reach the handheld shower.....I am happy with the progress of my bathroom, except for all of the stuffups caused by this particular "tradesperson/project manager". We live and learn....I can't do anything about what has happened, but can only minimise the impact where possible and learn from all the things that went wrong, if there is ever a next time. I should make a list of the learnings once bathroom is finished.

Precisely why I struggle to understand why on earth people persist in designing showers with lots of glass around them, when simply allowing a tiny bit more space to make an alcove shower (or creating a wet room) eliminates the need for glass completely and makes cleaning a dream. Who wants to get out of the shower all fresh and ready to dress for an outing but have to get sweaty again squeegeeing the shower? it's nuts! The house we purchased has two huge showers fully enclosed with glass and i can't wait to replace it with Wetwall sheeting that eliminates both tedious glass cleaning and grubby grout. Hopefully the new design will incorporate a solid stone base also, to eliminate grubby grout lines on the floor. Smart designers can prioritize easy cleaning when designing a bathroom and still make it gorgeous. But far too many builders stick with the conventional and don't think about maintenance at all.
