Need help decorating my living room
Comments (12)If you want an all contemporary look, I think you will need to paint or cover the brick and remove the FP insert. But, if you need the insert and would like to keep the brick, a more transitional style would work. Meaning your furniture/accessories have a somewhat traditional look with a contemporary flair. Like a traditional shape lamp, with a contemporary look :) Do you like the FP as it is?...See Moreneed advice in decorating new living room
Comments (12)Hi Fabulous Pink, Your pendants shown here are quite formal, so with that in mind, I would actually go for the more formal 'first' floor lamp pictured. The blue and grey cushions you previously posted are also more informal in colour and image, (especially the 'coral' shapes) so do not immediately tie together with the pendant selected here. That doesn't mean you can't introduce some blue into the room. Just consider the 'theme': is it formal, casual, classic, modern, eclectic, etc....and stick to that. It can be a bit formulaic, but if you haven't any experience, it is a more fool-proof way and you will most definitely develop ideas as you go, as Susan suggested, but you don't want to make costly mistakes or end up getting totally lost or bamboozled. Re the scatter cushions above, I like the texture of the first two but you will also need to add a solid colour (maybe this is where the blue comes in - perhaps in velvet, so it adds a softness as well as texture) and a throw rug in similar tones....See MoreNeed help decorating the strangest-shaped living room ever
Comments (17)I think the problem is actually not so much the shape of the room but the fact that at the "pitch of the roof" part you have a large full length window and fireplace. Essentially, because of all this there is no wall to put your back against or place furniture against. My rectangular room has similar issues with a corner window facing the fireplace. We just put the kids toys there on the floor and low kid size stuff like a toy box. You can't put any large pieces there. So, I say, start by completely ignore the top triangle of the room. Its essentially dead or unusable space, but will add to the feelings of space and light in the room. Arrange your large furniture pieces in the bottom square portion, around a large square rug perhaps that would define the space. It might feel better that way. Then arrange your other bits around that. I think if you try to work the square it will be way easier to organise the room. Emphasising a square layout will feel more comfortable. Plants in that light bright corner was a good suggestion, they soften the angles. Hope that helps!...See MoreNeed help with living room decor please
Comments (4)Hi Kathy, you have created a lovely, luxurious looking, neutral space that will stand the test of time well. As to artwork, that's always such a personal choice, but as you love natural elements suggest you might explore our signature treescape collection and see if anything there resonates. As all the photos posted above show, 'greenery' works really well as an accent colour. This piece, for example, would tie in the wrought iron of your dining suite and coffee table whilst introducing an accent colour to draw the eye....See MoreDr Retro House Calls
