A 1500mm long bath is a kiddy sized bath. I would go for an adult sized 1800mm bath and have it centered with 100mm at either end. I can't see a reason why the 1700mm bath can't be centered like the 1500mm bath.

Small baths in big bath hobs always look like you were trying to save money, and small baths may discourage potential buyers.

You probably have architraves to your bathroom window which is a 1600mm window (not 1500mm) so an 1800mm long bath is a better match for a 1600mm window with architraves. The window is probably much higher than the top of the bath so I wouldn't be too worried about getting a perfect matching width, as long as the window and the bath are centered in the space, and you let your builder know that this is important to you while the house is being framed.

have a bigger 1600-1800 long bath with equal spaces 200-100 on either end ...more spacious bath and better balanced with the window than exactly the same (nb the 1500 window also has the width of the architrave and/or the window frame to allow for) ..go to a bathroom showroom and sit in the bath (without shoes) to feel the difference between 1500 and 1800 length...have comfort and style

Choice and size of your fittings are completely up to you as long as they suit the size of the room and function well in relation to one another. It's likely the architect simply drew that size of bath for illustrative purposes, and one he/she would be happy to change to suit you. It's always best to sort through these queries with the architect as they want to resolve any misunderstandings.

Free standing baths look cool but cleaning behind them is not so cool. You need space all around to clean otherwise your hands and arms don't fit!

Too have a free standing bath as a feature you'd need a larger bathroom to get the full impact.

I'm a bath girl, love my baths. I took out a drop in bath and replaced it with a 1500 back to wall freestanding & so sorry I went this way. Yes I did sit in it at the showroom but because the drop in is so much lower I was sitting up too high to really test it out. The 1500 is too small to lay and relax plus it's too high. The drop in had arm rests that were perfect for reading. Now I don't know what to do, my builder said I can get a bigger bath 1700 and change it !!! now it's either cough up the extra $$ and replace it or give up the baths
