Renovating Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Help with my small bathroom layout & update!

I am looking to update my bathroom on a relatively small budget, but am having trouble with a layout that works.

The bathroom is quite small (2.7m x 2.0m). This is the only bathroom in the house so we are hoping to keep a bath in there if possible.

Our original thoughts were to extend the size of the shower (currently 900x900) into the linen cupboard area to make it bigger. We then thought to position the bath on the back wall under the window but not sure if that's going to leave enough room? then have the vanity on the wall the bath is currently along?

We also going to change the door to a cavity slider to hopefully utilise the space better.

Any thoughts would be so appreciated!

Hi Cassie, I think the bath under the window is best idea as you if you want you can have a 1700mm long bath and a big shower with still keeping a 1200mm vanity in the room will give you all three items of a large size. I did a quick drawing of what it would look like with the spacing you gave and the last image is of a bathroom we did with a similar spacing except with a 900 x 900 screen. Hopefully, that helps a little good luck with the renovation

Hi Cassie, Just another thought to add to On the Ball Bathrooms. Extending the shower using the linen cupboard, this might possibly be able to be moved into the laundry. Basically keeping the bath/shower and vanity in the same position but with a wall hung vanity which extends across the end of the bath plus a mirrored shaving cabinet above the vanity cheers

Nik Star, I’m jealous of your bigger space ; ) - but so happy you have now been reacquainted with your messing tape! We are toying with the idea of putting a cavity slider in. Thank you Ripple Effekt Siriuskey - yes I really LOVE the concept of a “wet room” - Never imagined that our space was big enough for this but now seeing it’s possible, thinking about trying the bath under the window, then the shower and then vanity on the bottom left corner - just flipping yours slightly. Just trying to find a good bath that’s narrower design to allow for the biggest vanity possible. You are all awesome!

Yes thank you for your thoughts. the room is 2.8 (with window) vs 3.4m. I do find it a bit annoying too as I don't like that you open the door and see straight away into the shower (though I'm certain the door would have a lock). I'm sure they lined the bath up to be with the window as visually that looks better, but then I find the space at the end annoying. I like the alternative drawings (I like three of them lots!) and I had been considering an drop in bath built wall to wall rather than a freestanding but also finding it frustrating to find a really nice supportive bath and there are less drop in baths than freestanding around at the moment which is a bit annoying. Thanks Anna for the picture, that helps as that looks good (though we would have more space at either end, 50cm) and I prefer the look of yours with some space but not as cavenous... I think I might have to have a talk with my husband as we really need to work out what to do!!

This with the extra width you suggested the built in bath with a large shower space next to, the shower head coming off the opposite wall to help avoid water to window, the window would be best tiled, the wall with the shower door into "The wet room could be all glass up to the vanity. There are several suitable places for towel hanging and an extra storage cabinet could be above the toilet, I forgot to add this

@lockmac My idea is to try to separate the wet area. The wall was solid with a place for more towels wither either another rail or just individual hooks for the kids towels. Even a lovely wall hanging above to greet you. I do have another option which has the bath on that wall with the shower on the other side. I still prefer both shower and bath together maintaining the wet area. You mentioned changing the window, this would give you the opportunity to drop it to the floor as on or two narrower windows, this will give more light and make the bathroom feel bigger, plus you could lay back in the tub while looking out at the view. On another point, some worry about splashing the tub while showering, I liken it to when you have a combined tub with shower over, you wet the tub!, If you have a separate shower you wet walls. glass screens and floor, The vanity is a wall hung (which adds to making the space feel bigger) 1500 x 420

Hi all,

Just thought I would come back to show the finished product of our bathroom renovation.

I think based on the previous comments we were all thinking along the same lines and now seeing it come to life we are incredibly stoked with the outcome.
