Which type of window should i install in bathroom?

I am building a small studio granny flat and need some guidance as to which window i should install?

The exact opening between brickwork is 700mm (H) x 635mm (W)

I originally thought about putting in an aluminium sliding window but then thought it may not be a good idea due to splashes / water causing rot / termites as no real way to waterproof the tracks etc.

My next thought was, since the window is soo tall, maybe i could go with 350mm of the window in fixed glass (opaque), and then the other 350mm would be some kind of opening (for ventilation) but it would need a fly screen.

Any ideas/suggestions on window layout? I really want to have window ventilation.

700 x 635 would be very narrow for a slider...why not consider an aluminium awning window which should be water resistant and allows the window to be screened and left open for ventilation.....what is the distance of the window opening off the floor and is the window inside a shower space?

If the window is in a shower recess you need to take special precautions for waterproofing to protect the timber reveal. If the window is not at risk of water damage then a standard timber reveal and architrave should work.

I would suggest an aluminium awning window with a powdercoated finish would be good as it doesn't have a track if it is not in a shower recess.

If it is in a shower recess consider a louvred window, without an architrave. When your shower recess has its waterproof membrane applied continue the waterproof membrane over the reveal up to the aluminium frame then tile over.

Don't put a timber (or MDF) architrave around a window that is exposed to water as it will just rot out, along with the timber reveal.

I think plantation shutters go with almost any decor. You can have them painted any colour as well, so perhaps you might look at a black or dark grey for some "drama", or another darker colour that will compliment the bathroom. Because your windows are going to be frosted the colour probably won't make much difference to the outside.

yes but I think it depends what market you are likely to be seeking in. if it's not family home market but more up market retirees then a glam spacious bathroom will win more plaudits from buyers than a cramped make-do space. I just strongly feel you should design your bathroom so it is a pleasure to use every day not just the one day a year you may want a bath (plus much as I like the style of bathroom Siriuskey has posted they really don't beg out for bathing in). But a vanity space where you can even have your own toothpaste if you like stripey and he likes plain and all stored neatly away so they never have to appear on display together and with a shower you can lift your arms up in is priceless if you ask me.

The use of bidets is a very European tradition, and a very personal choice. They are not in common use in Australia. From my experience in designing bathrooms for clients that have requested a bidet it is important to have it immediately adjacent to the toilet pan (and not at the other end of the bathroom). For this reason you should chose one that is of the same brand and matches your toilet pan. They are more expensive than toilet pans, cost more to install, and is an extra thing to clean, so you must really want one. You will find that when it comes to resale a bidet will not be appreciated by many buyers, and in some cases may detract from the appeal of your bathroom, as a lot of people actually dislike them. These drawings are not to scale so may not work, but this is what I would be striving for if it were my house. Retain the 3-way bathroom but move the shower to a lovely large open shower and add a toilet opening off the laundry. It reduces the laundry size, but I would rather a second toilet over a larger laundry any day. And this shouldn't be a hideously expensive remodel as it leaves much of the existing in place. The biggest issue would be plumbing for the new toilet. You could eliminate the basin in the second toilet if you designed the laundry so that the wash tub doubles as a hand basin. I've seen that done in ways that are quite attractive. (Apologies for the rather rough drawings).

We have a timber architrave and reveal with an aluminium sliding winder in our shower in the house we are currently renting. The aluminium window is fine but the timber is exposed to the shower spray and it’s a disaster
