This is a potted avocado tree...we planted it in a plastic tub instead of a proper pot but cut 6 10cm x 1cm slits in the bottom. At the very bottom there is a small dead animal then potting mix then it is topped with a layer of mulch. But it just will not drain and everything I read tells me the tree will die. Why won't it drain and how can we make it drain?! The pic shows it 2 hours after watering, I gave it maybe 3 litres of water...less than I give any of our other established potted plants. Also just before I took the pic I added sand to the mulch to try and get rid of some of the sitting water but not much help...
