How to hang curtains over alcove windows.
Comments (12)another idea if you had a plain pelmet that was within the alcove that came from the bottom of the picture rail to the top of the window and flush with the walls on both sides painted the same as the wall colour., you could then run your black curtain rod across the alcove pelmet which would look like the wall. When I had my Ferderation House we painted the bedroom walls up to and including the picture rail in the same colour. The wall above the picture rail and the ceiling were painted flat white, along with skirting boards, an old painter told me about this and it looks brilliant. A couple more photo's for you with different looks This is similar to what I have tried to explain by running a plain pelmet across the whole alcove and then the black rod running from either side outside the alcove with the curtains against the outer wall, the pelmet would look like part of the wall....See MoreShould we have curtains or blinds in this bedroom?
Comments (11)To add texture and softness to a room i would always recommend a curtain.. For bedrooms I always recommend a blockout with a sheer curtain hung very close to the cornice .. Depending on the “fall” of the fabric.. ( how it sits) your window treatment professional will recommend a style ( double pinch pleat, reverse pleat, s fold) but they will recommend the best pleat to showcase the fabric you choose .. However here is a cheap but smart alternative. Firstly.. very rarely do I hang either curtains or blinds within the window “reveal” I always go at least a minimum of 150mm above the window for blinds and generally always up to the cornice for the curtains. When you hang in the reveal you lose the height and a portion of the view.. You want to highlight a view so this is why I’m suggesting it! Plus it always makes your room look bigger. But .. if this is not for you then Alternatively you can get a sunscreen blind hung within the reveal and hang a curtain above roughly 150mm about be the reveal. The curtain should “frame” the window on either side of the window frame wall .. NOT covering a good portion of the window.. you want most of the fabric to sit in the wall when open. The combo blind / curtain is your most economical.. But I have always always hung curtains in bedrooms without fail.. It gives you that element of texture and luxe that is very hard to beat!!...See MoreLiving room sheer curtains
Comments (0)We have 3 windows in living room (refer photos). 2 windows are facing patio area, both on same wall, other window is on next wall and has reverse aircon near ceiling. We would like to hang new sheets to the ceiling, which will be ok for the 2 windows facing but What is everyones advice on the window with aircon. How can we hang to ceiling? I think it may look stupid having curtains for 2 windows to ceiling and not on the 3rd window....See MoreCurtain height and colour ideas
Comments (3)Thank you for the ideas. The windows are actually new and double glazed so are well insulated. I do need the block out for light though. I like the idea of starting at the top, I wasn’t sure if I should start middle or top. I bought those rollers not long ago but they’re too bright white so they might have to go. If I can go with just a curtain and blockout that would be good. Thank you....See MoreAJ
