Hi Guys , you have probably already done this room already.. But I would have tv and Fireplace sharing the same wall and move the tv if possible to take advantage of the fire on those cold days, would be nice to see tv and wood heater from the the couch area. I understand that it looks like it was an open fire and you have had to box in the flue from the wood heater, so it looks a little nicer - unless there is an option to see part of the flue (like you see on escape to the country tv show' to give character. Otherwise , I would consider bricking up the gap and keep the mantle as its quite nice and render over the fireplace area, then choose if you want to keep the walls either side of fireplace with exposed brick walls but put in 'if you can afford or like - timber open backed booked cases into the space either side of the fireplace. then if you do not like the floor tiles and cannot replace immedately, go for a big cheap dark grey rug to match couch - will update the inside of the house while you decide on flooring alternative and look much more cosy. Just my thoughts, room has good structure - shame that you cannot see the fire from the tv- guess you need to decide if you want to feature the fireplace or cover it up and make focal point of the room where the tv is instead- this will guide you in either plasstering over whole walls - or keeping some walls as they are. cheers.

If her favourite colour is red and if she has specifically asked for red to be used in the room, then I think you should try to respect her wishes and add red accessories, like a throw and cushion/s. It's great to have a neutral base, but everyone should be allowed to show a little of their personality in their own bedroom. Thanks for your replies. I don't favour any particular style, I'm afraid I can see good things in all styles, but I love the colours of Morocca and Mexico and also love Balinese. I thought that with white walls I could bring plenty of colour into furnishings etc. I really like white white, am not fond of creamy whites at all. If anyone can suggest a colour I will get a sample pot and try it. I know the floor tiles restrict colour choices but they will have to stay unfortunately. We live in the sub tropics so would like that reflected, also love indoor plants. I love sleek modern kitchens with plenty of drawers however ours is a bit boxed in to make look sleek, am considering getting an upright stove so where the oven is could become more bench space. The dining room needs to cater to 8 minimum but am looking out for a nice extension table for there.

Hi xclusive Yes you will need to fix the 'rough texture' on the ceiling. Either have a false ceiling battened on or do a smooth skim coat. Also 1. Yes add a decorative cornice- will finish the room and compliment the traditional style 2. Any other mouldings, Id keep fairly simple and repaint white same as wall to brighten and freshen the space. Your ceiling you need to paint half strength white as walls or celing white in a flat finish. 3. Yes- dimmer very important 4. Yes- engineered timber floor 5. yes- rug under table 6. No - I wouldnt place the pictures there- it draws too much attention to this space. Place larger pictures/artwork on the side walls. Id focus on updating the window furnishing treatments to make more of the windows. Replace the pendant light fitting. It's looking tired and will give the room an instant lift.
