I'm

I'm getting a new kitchen installed next week. It has 60%white gloss cupboards., silestone white north benchtop (white with grey and latte dots) and a medium grey splashback. The floor tiles a Latte kind of colour(see photo). My house is quite dark as the room. Is south facing. I want to paint the walls with a white dulux paint but have no idea what shade to pick. TIA

I have just painted all interior walls Lexicon half. I love it. House is quite dark and kitchen and family room are south facing. It is much lighter, cleaner and crisper than before. Had Whisper White previously that was too yellowish for me. Lexicon is a cool shade and is bright white with a very subtle blue grey undertone if any.
I found Vivid white to be very similar colour.

Have a read of this article I wrote a little while back which goes through the most popular Dulux whites and compares them. Even though I wrote it for owners of Pettit and Sevitt homes the comparisons are applicable to your situation.

Don't make a decision based on digital images you see on the internet as they are inaccurate due to lighting conditions. The only way to choose is with real samples in the real environment.

Do you happen to know what sort of paint has been used on trims? It can sometimes be a very big job to properly prepare them for repainting so the paint sticks. We have found ours wasn't done right in the past and is coming away. Not looking forward to doing it all correctly. I would much prefer to spend the money on beautiful bright artwork! Changing the door colour as big reader suggested sounds like a good first step before deciding to do it all.

What's the difference between Dulux Whisper white and Natural white?

I love Dulux Natural White. It’s white without being clinical. I’d suggest you grab a sample pot of both and paint a section if possible. The sample cards can look significantly different to the actual paint. I did the same with 3 ‘whites’ on my house (very glad I did) and went with Natural White.

Hi Rochelle. We have Hogs Bristle 1/2 strength on the walls. Vivid white on Windows and skirts. Looks fabulous. It is a very bright room with high skylights. Always looks clean and fresh and very stylish. hogs Bristle has been a favourite in the Deluxe range for many year and I can understand why. Good luck with whatever you go with.

It will be interesting I have now appointment an independent building inspector to do the final defects on our apartment and I have mentioned to him also that the painting on the doors and architraves is totally different to the wall colour, and that it should be exactly the same. He couldn't understand how that could be. I will be taking photos to Bunnings on Saturday. That door colour is horrible and I will not be giving in (I have had 4 homes previously and never had this issue with a painter/builder). I will definitely keep you posted.

Dulux Lexicon half & quarter are good, reliable whites. However if you have latte colours, Dulux Natural White could be a winner... it’s a classic off white.

Thank you. What colour would you use for the trims? Do you prefer half or full strength Natural White for the walls?

I recommend full strength Natural White, but of course you should choose based on sample. It has a brown undertone hence why it looks good with neutrals.
If you want to highlight doors and trims Lexicon Half is a good contrast to Natural White Full. Otherwise paint out the trims in the same as wall (different finish, same colour).
It’s pretty failsafe!
