You have a lot going on texture-wise so I'd probably keep it simple in terms of rug texture or there'll be too much going on at once. Warm would do well in this room though, so that's good! You mention it's away from the light outdoor area, is this photo an accurate representation of the lighting you normally get in this room? So in summary, you might want to have a look at rugs that don't have much texture, and are a bit brighter in colour to help brighten up the room. Below are just a couple of examples of rugs that could work, and one more neutral example.

Either tiles or colorbond (custom orb/corrugated/etc.) as both have good points and bad points. Aesthetics and price in most cases is what is comes down to at the end of the day. Tiles are good as they have a long lifespan if looked after. Terracotta in particular is a good choice depending on colour, house design, etc.. Tiles do look really good on the right house. But they are heavy and many roof structures are sagging under the weight if not constructed strong enough. They also hold the heat in summer and take a long time to cool. They are quite good in bushfire area's if constructed to the modern regulations. Colorbond, corrugated, custom orb (call it what you will) has a good lifespan. It's easy for builders to work with, is light weight compared to tiles, great colour choices, heat up really fast in summer but cools down very quickly when theres no sun. Also good in bushfire areas when constructed to the modern regulations. Custom orb is very cheap and is easy to use so is a overall great choice for almost every situation and this is what I'd recommend in your situation. Mainly due to the whole roof being removed. A Hip roof instead of the gable end roof would suit and really sharpen the style up. Easier for the builder as well. Gully or Jasper are both great colours for the roof but I'd get some samples first. These would look good against the existing brickwork and windows. I do like the greys in the Colorbond range but I don't think they'll suit the existing colours. Gutters same a roof colour but a lighter and crisper facia. You won't see much of the facia but it'll look great with a light highlight such as evening haze perhaps. I'd replace the timber veranda rails with new steel balustrading. A hardwood timber top rail would give it a nice lift as well. The existing blinds draw your eye to them rather than the house as a whole so I'd bin them. then some landscaping will give you a great house!

we would wish to have timber-look tiles that we could use for both indoors and outdoors in order to have a flow-through impression. Could anyone recommend a specific brand or model which would be suitable for this ? many thanks

@P I I've always understood that with floor tiling the variously shaped part tiles are usually planned for the wall of, say, a bathroom (washroom) that is the least seen (around the toilet or under the bench supporting the basin(s) or simply at a back wall (and maybe corner). If the floor-tiles meet carpeting at the bathroom (washroom) door then the above is what I would want and expect. However if the floor tiles are also in an adjoining corridor (and maybe other rooms) then perhaps the tile layout in the bathroom (washroom) will be dictated by their layout in more 'important' rooms. I think @tectile could more professionally comment on this.
